Name a great player from your school's "backyard" / pipeline you missed?

ETA: these are players that were unknowns and you clearly would have signed to a scholarship if you simply offered. Guys like Marcus Dupree who simply did not choose your school don't count

For Auburn we have 3 pretty major ones that should have gone to Auburn

Terrell Owens

Owens is from Alex City back when Russell Athletic dominated the town. Due to AU and Russell being linked, Benjamin Russell HS was a huge pipeline for Auburn and if we recruited TO it is hard to imagine he wouldn't have been a Tiger. Unfortunately, due to not being allowed to play sports till late in his Hs career, he flew under the radar. Have family who went to Hs with him and said nobody would have thought he would seriously play in college let alone be NFL HOF caliber. Amazing just how unknown he was

Demarcus Ware

Ware is from Auburn HS. Despite recent losses in recruiting from the home Hs to Alabama, traditionally AU recruits extremely well in its own backyard. Ware didn't play until his junior year and only received an offer from Troy University. Amazing that someone like Ware slipped through the cracks despite being 5 minutes away.

Osi Umenyiora

Teammates with Ware at AUHS and Troy University , Osi definitely fell through the cracks. Osi was not even that great in HS on some average Auburn HS teams. Supposedly his growth spurt and body transformation happened in college and led to his draft position and future star power in the NfL

I don't know the definition of 'missed'.

But Jamal Lewis killed us for a couple of years.

Added some direction on what "missed" means.

Drew Brees not being offered by TAMU is good

Dupree or Manning being lost by being out recruited is not a solid pick

It hurts more knowing they wanted to come to UT. Thanks Phil

Big miss by Tennessee. He wanted to be a Vol in an interview that I heard.

Yeah our list would be a mile long on all the guys the Whorns got from us in the 2000s. There's still a ton, Ladainian Tomlinson is another one that didn't get an offer that almost surely would have committed with one

Terrell Owens

He was one class below me, and the reason he was under the radar is because he didn't do anything in football until his senior year. He was more of a track guy until then. He was a late bloomer with underdeveloped hands, and Coach Steve Savarese got him into UTC where he physically matured. And we know the rest.

Pacman Jones was a 2* CB from Westlake in Atlanta, although missing on him may have been for the best. I can't imagine he would have handled Athens well

Thanks.

I'm not a recruiting guru.
The only one that comes to mind at the moment is choosing Caleb King over Jonathan Dwyer.

I'm sure some other Dawg fans can recall other players that we didn't offer or didn't have higher up than the guys we took at the position.
