Anyone ever do any long boarding?

Seen a few college students do this on the hilly roads. Some were even a few girls. How hard is it to pick up this sport? Any other OTB's long board?

It's big enough here that we actually have two shops that specialize in longboards (though one also does a lot of lifestyle and general skate culture inventory as well). Fayetteville is hilly, though. Like really hilly.
I've considered getting a longboard when my 6 year old gets old enough to want to do it. I'm an avid snowboarder and lived in Colorado for years, so this would probably be next best thing.
