I'll start it off.

I'm probably in the minority here but I did not grow a fan of USC. I was a huge Fsu fan so in fact I have always hated the taters growing up (Bowden rivalries). But during my junior year in high school a few friends and I started driving up to Cola attending games, sneaking into the student sections and because their older brothers were greek we was allowed to go to a few parties here and there.

I had never experience a culture I wanted to be apart of so badly. This was back in '05 way before we became a factor in the east. But I soon fell in love with the university and knew that this was the place for me.

I enrolled at Carolina just wanting to get an education after a couple of years at Furman where I was running out of money fast - it was expensive even then and trying to pull my course load plus buff floors at night (at the school). Carolina offered me some financial help and I needed it. So I get to Carolina and Frank McGuire was starting to hit his stride, but so was Paul Dietzel. My third year there we won the ACC football championship and ACC basketball championship ... and from that point I was all in, hook, line and sinker. It was an exciting time to be a Gamecock. Basketball particularly, you had to camp-out around the Carolina Coluseum to even hope to get tickets, same was true for football too. Neither of the upper decks were built back then, we seated something like 45k at the time maybe and it was always packed at Carolina Stadium, (before they renamed it Williams-Brice).

By the time I was in graduate school I had enough money to make the trip to the ACC tourney and you had to be there to experience it in those days, but everyone in the ACC hated us. So we go up there and are kicking arse in the tourney and it comes down to the final seconds and Kevin Joyce outjumps Lee Dedmon for the win ... and we all go crazy. Of course, everyone else hated it and there were fights everywhere after the game and once blood was shed, I was a Gamecock for life. Went back to work doing GA slave chores with this big shiner and was proud to be a Gamecock ... vowed to never take any shite off of any of those ACC pukes ever again.

I actually grew-up more of a Bama fan and somewhat of an Arkansas fan because one of my brothers played ball at Arkansas for Frank Broyles but I just admired The Bear. Hated Clemson even then.

I was at Carolina when they built Carolina Coliseum, when they expanded and added the upper deck on the west side, when Frank McGuire was building the basketball program and during his biggest years, when Dietzel was building the football program and when we left the ACC. I was there when we hired Bobby Richardson.

Seems like yesterday. But anyways, by the time I left and went out to make my way in the world I had been there to see a lot of transformation, "right steps," at the time and thought we were on our way to greatness. We had a hiccup or two along the way but we're getting closer, a lot closer than I realize now, we were back then. But as a student is when I fell in love with Carolina.

My dad has taken me to games since I was 6-7 years old. I'm 23 now and still go to every game with my dad. Usually every home game. This year I'm thinking about paying for tickets for us to go to Auburn. Neither of us have been.

My wife and I went to the last Auburn game there ... it should have been Garcia's last start.

Be prepared to pay out the arose for tickets if you do not secure them before you leave. We will not make that mistake again. We ordered through the Gamecock Club this year .... Auburn and Kentucky both.

Better go while you can. Might be the last time we play them for a decade.

So this is the thread that made me want to join this board.

I'd been lurking here since the team boards started, but never had a reason to post.

I've been a pseudo-Carolina fan since I was in middle school, I picked up a shirt at the mall and thought it was funny because it said "COCKS" on it. You all know the one, it had the lines, and below Cocks it said "The University of South Carolina." I'm sure you all remember them.

I thought it was funny because it said Cocks, I'm sure there was an Oregon State one as well.

Either way, I wore that around in Columbia, MO and I got shite for it. I didn't want to stop wearing it, so instead of giving up the joke I thought was so funny, I started learning about USC in case someone ever wanted to challenge me on my Cocks shirt.

Well, soon I got sick of wearing the shirt, but I had another team to follow. At that time I had a cousin playing for Nebraska, a weird connection to South Carolina, and I lived in a city that didn't like Mizzou. Believe it or not, being a Mizzou fan in Columbia in the early 90's as a kid was pretty much unacceptable. So I bought in to South Carolina.

Long story short, I'm a Cubs fan, a Mizzou fan, and a South Carolina fan. I'm 100% bought into the whole long suffering fanbase's achievements being worth a million times more than a Yankee/Patriot/Bama fan thing. I 100% own that. When good things happen for Mizzou/Cubs/Gamecock/Whatever else fans, it means more. I love that. I feel like we share an experience that few fans can ever understand.

I'm not a huge Gamecocks fan, I follow the team like I did before Mizzou moved into the SEC, and I will continue to do so. I don't think I'll ever hate the Gamecocks, but I hope that we can someday develop a rivalry worthy of hate. I hope it's real, that it's developed on the field instead of the rant, and that it's great.

However, if there's ever a time I get to see the Gamecocks raise a Crystal Football or whatever the frick the new Championship Trophy is, I'll be one of the happiest fans in the world. I know a portion of what you've been through through and experienced it myself if even at a fraction of the level you will. I hope it happens someday, I'll always be rooting for it at long at the Tigers aren't in the way.

I just hope that day is the year after Mizzou does it.

ETA: frick, my first post here is a td;dr.

Sorry.

When I first set foot on the Horseshoe.

Carolina football?

Probably the first game I went to. I haven't been a fan nearly as long as most of you. My first game was 07 vs. ULL.

Do it. I went to Auburn in 2010 and loved it despite the loss. I'm trying to get my dad to go back with me this year

I'm 23 too and my dad has taken me to games since I can remember. One of the earliest memories I have is him having to carry me out on his shoulders after the ECU game around 95 because of the flooding around the stadium.

One of my earliest memories is sitting in the stands 2 hours before the game. Nobody on the field. For some reason the fans to keep players cool against the green grass is a memory I remember vividly.

Also when we rushed the field I remember getting lost from my dad and went straight to a police officer. I was such a good kid.

Have always being a gamecock fan for as long as I remember (early 80's) I think part because everyone was a tater fan in the upstate around those years and I wanted to be different, plus I liked the whole underdog mentality as a kid.

I had one uncle who was a Gamecock fan and we would watch/go to the games when we could. Haven't looked back since, take my daughter to the games and she watches them with me on TV and when my son is old enough he will be a mainstay at Willy B as well.

And to Mizzeax... I also has a gamecock shirt that read "You can't lick our Cocks!" and I loved that shirt, wore it til it was threads.

Haven't missed a home game since the middle of 2005, of course with me moving to College Station I won't be able to go. Naturally it's against A&M of all teams.

However I took 2 road trips last year.. @UGA and @UT.

Mid 90's, listening to the baseball team on the radio on the way back to Camden on Sunday's with my father. I had watched the football games from time to time, but wasn't really into watching sports as much as playing them at the time. That was the initial first hint... it only built when I went there after HS while BJ Mckie was doing amazing things on the basketball court.
