I saw a thread that mentioned Steve McNair passed on LSU.

Johnny football/rg3 and Texas are good recent ones.

Any others that stand out?

Terrell Owens was from Alexander City, IIRC. There's another.

Phillip Rivers was recruited as a tight end by both Auburn and Alabama.

Willie Roaf (lineman from a while back)
Scottie Pippen

However, both blew up physically late, after going to smaller schools.

Drew Brees is the biggest one. Had a bunch of family members that went to A&M as well

Yeah, ol' Drew would've helped augment our QBU score.
Damn. That one stunk to high heaven.

Don't know if he'd be the QB he is today without going to Purdue and playing in Tiller's offense honestly

Jerry Rice grew up in Starkville.

Walter Payton wanted to come to MSU from Columbia, MS.

McNair was recruited as a DB by almost every SEC school. Wanted to play QB and his older brother was all-everything at Alcorn.

Didn't do much in the pros but SC had Kenny Irons on our roster, Holtz let him go to get a big time in-state recruit by the name of Demetrius Summers who would soon become a huge bust.
