There are three horses that competed in the Arkansas Derby that are in Saturday's Kentucky Derby including Derby winner Danza (8-1), Derby runner-up Ride On Curlin (15-1), and Derby fourth place finisher Tapiture (8-1). LINK. It appears to me that each one of them has a legitimate shot at winning the race. California Chrome (5-2) is the current favorite. It's a twenty horse field at the moment as there has been one horse scratched.

Wow just saw where hoppertunity was scratched. Danza's race in the AR derby was very impressive. Very hard to overlook California chrome in this though

This article gives an interesting analysis and has the three solid contenders as California Chrome, Danza, and Ride On Curlin'. LINK

Right now going with a $1 5 horse tri box with Cali chrome, ride on, Danza, intense holiday, and right now candyboy. Still deciding on the last one.
Cali chrome's run in the Santa Anita derby without a whip was super impressive.

Seems like a pretty solid grouping. I might want to work Ride on Curlin into the exotics.

Ride on has gotten better and better and better. He's also a closer which I love in these races and then of course borel....
Thanks for the link btw

Derby is absolutely impossible to accurately predict. Way too many horses in the field. Can't freaking wait.

Well yea but thats the fun of it.

Yes, for different reasons it's traditionally the most difficult of the Triple Crown races to handicap. Things should get narrowed down after this race. The horses starting on the far outside are at a real disadvantage. I don't see a horse that I believe is a real threat to win the Triple Crown this year.

I was on the finish line for Smarty Jones at Belmont. I bought all the programs, hats, t-shirts etc as I just knew he was going to bring home the Triple Crown.
One hell of a race! I would love to almost witness history again.

I have a sad memory of the 1993 Belmont Stakes race as that's the one where Prairie Bayou (owned by Loblolly Stables of Lake Hamilton) broke down and had to be put to sleep. I had bet on him the first two legs of the Triple Crown (2nd in the Kentucky Derby and 1st in the Preakness) and had money on him for the final leg when tragedy struck.

John Ed Anthony (Loblolly) is my uncle. Named Pine Bluff after my family (I'm from the Yard). Gave my mother the horse drape and jockey jersey and we hung it in the convention center in PB.
Never forget when Demons Be Gone banged her nose on the starting gate in the KY Derby, nose bleed and they pulled her out. We were having a family get-together for that race.... then they yanked her 1 minute before the race...wah wah wah.

Why did someone down vote the OP?
As for the Derby, because of the money they can generate per entry it will always be a huge race. My only desire is the field is locked for the Triple Crown by who is in the Derby. It would prevent the fresh horses from entering and making the Triple Crown almost impossible. The upside of the Preakness and Belmont is usually the herd gets thinned a bit.
Is anybody going?

I would go with my Oaklawn formula here. Kinda like a box but kinda my own thing too.
$5 on best odds horse that I like out of the Ark Derby trio
then $5 each on the other two to show.
had a pretty solid weekend this year betting $15 bucks total per race.
that said, I like the odds of the 3 AR derby horses and I might would even take a second bet on the 15-1 to win.
Obviously I don't know crap about horse racing but I have fun when I go!!!

That's probably who I am betting on. It's hard to bet against Borel in the Kentucky Derby and Ride on Curlin had good showings in both the Arkansas Derby and Rebel.

Why did someone downvote the OP?
Pretty much every thread on this Board is going to generate at least one downvote by a lurker. I'd almost be offended if such weren't the case. It has nothing to do with the subject matter. You could start a thread about cute puppies and kittens and it would be downvoted.
I won't be there but I'll be watching.

That period of time where Loblolly and Lasater had horses running at Oaklawn was the Golden Era of thoroughbred racing in Arkansas IMO. They had many good horses and I still remember the names of several of them, even those which were local track favorites. You could literally go to the track and bet on the stables and people did just that.
Here's a good link to a story about Anthony where he's questioned about Prairie Bayou and the other horses you mentioned. LINK
