I'll ask this question here ('96 vs. '15)

So IF (big if) the Twins return is this the deepest team we've had since 1996? Obviously I don't know that they pull off a 96-esque run but it could be pretty special.

Thoughts?

I think such a team roster could put opposing teams to death due to depth Cal could use. He could run for 40 min and simply run opponents out of gas. This is of course predicated on the incoming class being as good as billed.

Three PG's, two SG's, two PF, four centers/Forwards... that's eleven deep of top tier talent.

This is the UK way, however with the numerous TV timeouts now in the game, the other team is hard to run off the court. If UK played with no TV breaks, they could be brutal.

As to your question Belle, I am going to go with 96' just for the intangibles. Hard to think it was that long ago except seeing their kids play now.

Was there 9 guys from 96 that went to the NBA? 15 will have more. Hopefully they win it all.

Them getting the chance to go play somewhere overseas this offseason couldn't have come at a better time.

So, I was just helping the wife clean this morning and I removed sofa cushions to clean under them and found a tear in my couch. Time for a new couch.

But, I'm going to save the old couch so I can burn it next April when we win #9.

BTW, I don't live on State Street.

Ok, I'm being lazy. I guess I could go look up last years roster, figure out who said they're leaving and who said they're returning and then go look up your commitments coming in next year. I'm hoping one of y'all will be kind enough, though, to educate me on who will be on your roster and/or who you expect to see the floor next year. Frankly, I'm excited to see it already. I can see a real run next year, from start to finish.

Returning (positions as listed on UKAthletics.com):

F Willie Cauley Stein
F Alex Poythress
C Dakari Johnson
F Marcus Lee
F Derek Willis (has confirmed he's not transferring, suck it Forde)
G Andrew Harrison
G Aaron Harrison
G Dominique Hawkins

I'm assuming our walk-ons Tod Lanter, Brian Long, EJ Floreal, and Sam Malone are all returning as well.

(Only Randle and Young declared).

Incoming Class (I use Rivals rankings for Basketball):

4* SG Devin Booker (sorry Reedus )
5* PF Trey Lyles
5* C Karl Anthony Towns
5* PG Tyler Ulis

Obviously the post is the logjam. I fully expect our starting 5 to begin the season to be both Harrisons, Poythress, Johnson, and WCS.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lee play as a 3/4 guy. I also expect the guys coming in to get a decent amount of time as well, especially the guards where those positions are thinner. There's just so many combinations you can go with on that roster, it's all going to be opponent dependent honestly.

I'm a little excited.

A lot of it will come down to how much Poythress works in the offseason. I could easily see them possibly starting the Harrisons with Booker to help space the floor for the bigs down low.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Lyles starting at the 4. Cal has had to change his offense to fit the personnel, but the most effective version of his dribble drive offense features a stretch 4. You need a guy who can get to the rim or step out and hit a jumper.

Terrence Jones probably fit the mold of his favorite style of PF. PPat became a good shooter, but wasn't much of a slasher. Randle could get to the rim, but wasn't a good shooter. Lyles is both and he is apparently the best passing big in this freshmen class.

I can't wait to see him in hi-low situations with Dakari. The new assistant is supposed to be a great big man coach, so with an entire offseason of working with him and working out in the weight room I have a good feeling Dakari is just going to be a bull next year.

Ullis is also going to be a fun one to watch. No offense to Jarrod Polson, but this will be the first time Cal has had a legit back up PG since Bledsoe. I would love to see them press like crazy when Ullis and WCS are in the game together.

I have a good feeling this team is going to absolutely embarrass some people next year.

Jeez Belle, that is absolutely sick. You're second 5 off the bench could compete for the SEC and likely make the tourney.
