Some quotes to honor HBC
“You can’t spell Citrus without UT”
After being asked if he thought Florida would beat Georgia… ”Is Ray Goff still coaching there?”
"Our offensive line (is) pretty good at everything except blocking. Unfortunately, that's all we ask them to do."
“I know why Peyton came back for his senior year: he wanted to be a three-time Citrus Bowl MVP”
“In 12 years at Florida, I don’t think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama…Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were giving out at Alabama were worth a whole lot more than ours.”
In response to an Auburn dorm fire that burned books… ”but the real tragedy was that fifteen hadn’t been colored yet.”
On Michigan's long home winning streak: "I think they play Ohio State there this year."
“You know what FSU stands for, don’t you? Free Shoes University”
On Georgia recruiting… “Why is it that during recruiting season they sign all the great players, but when it comes time to play the game, we have all the great players? I don’t understand that. What happens to them?”
On Danny Wuerffel taking hits… “I think he’s sort of a New Testament guy. He gets slapped in the face, and he turns the other cheek. He says, ‘Lord, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’ I’m probably more of an Old Testament guy, an eye for an eye. You spear our guy in the ear hole and we think we’re supposed to be able to spear you in the ear hole. That’s how we’re a little different.”
On playing Georgia the second week of the season… “I don’t know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended.”
“All I can say is that I’m going to try to coach the way I’ve coached in the past. And if it ends up not being good enough, then so be it.”
"I do feel badly for Arkansas. That's no fun getting your butt beat at home, homecoming and all that."
"Wofford almost beats us every time they come in here. Furman gave us a battle."
"Will be the 14th time I've coached in Neyland Stadium. ... I've coached there more than some of their head coaches."
On if Jadeveon Clowney will play on offense: "Not really. We got a bunch of offensive players"
"I didn't know Jadeveon's car that could go that fast. He doesn't have a pretty car like those FSU guys used to drive."
"The Pope is 77 years old and he's in charge of a billion people. All I have to do is put 11 on the field."
On Hugh Freeze: "We have a lot in common. We both play golf and both wear visors. How could you not like him?"
"Most of our guys have never been to Death Valley. (LSU's stadium) is the Death Valley, isn't it? Or is there another one? There's two of them. That's right. There's two Death Valleys."
"I said, ‘Well, what do you want me to do? I didn't say it.' Smart people don't believe everything they read, and they don't believe hearsay. ... I guess Dabo believed it."
(Spurrier was incorrectly quoted as saying "We aren't LSU and we aren't Alabama. But we sure ain't Clemson" on twitter in 2011 leading to this rambling response to a planted question at 1:50

I fricking love Spurrier. If there is ever an off season thread and I'm not mentioned as being most like him, y'all should all reevaluate your lives.

I don't know why this is still so funny to me, but when I was watching a Thursday UK @ South Carolina game in 2007 I remember a South Carolina screen play went really badly and ended up a huge loss of yards. After the play, it immediately goes to Spurrier who is already picking up all the shite he threw.

Spurrier is one of a kind...and I had the pleasure as a teen of watching him as a UF QB in the 1964-66 era. You have to understand how average UF was back then before he arrived.
Spurrier brought UF back in the fourth qt in the last few minutes as a player many times. He had the knack....born in Miami Beach and raised in Johnson City, Tn. UF was lucky that UT ran a wing T offense back then. Spurrier also had talent in basketball and baseball.
Happy birthday coach.

I have always enjoyed spurrier's trash talk even when directed at my alma mater. he's a real character is a country that doesn't seem to allow characters anymore. hope he hangs in there until he's senile so we can hear some really good one's.
