So the SEC still has a bit of a gap to close where the Big Ten is concerned, and likely still will when it releases its figures for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

We like to tout our loyalty as southern football fans, but the real miracle is how the garbage arse teams from the Big 10 continue to wring money out of their fans. Ohio State is really the only school in the conference that is fairly consistently worth a damn--and they just got off sanctions.

It is a numbers game. B1G has key population states and does not have to share markets. SEC's has few big states and must share markets :
FL and GA must be shared with ACC
TX must be shared with B12

Anyone think about how much the Big 10 spends? They have a more corporate model. They own more of their network, but they also have to pay for upkeep/build out/maintenance.

Just and example but the SEC pays $1 a year in rent on their office space in Bham. Number 1 reason why the offices will never leave the city.

Also the Big 10 has the Big Ten Network, which has been making them $$$ for a while (and is the prototype for the SEC Network).

Give the SEC a few years and our rainmaking machine will be fully functional.

ETA: AU beat me to it, but to be as close as we are without a network shows that the majority of the country may hate us but they can't stop watching. (Especially in Austin)

Different models

BTN is owned roughly 50/50 with FOX. B1G revenue is based on carriage rates and ad sales @ 50%

ESPN owns SECN so payouts are fixed and ESPN (Disney) pockets the profits instead of keeping 50% and giving the other 50% to the SEC.

In flat models you want the SECN models, but in upward growth models you want the BTN model. PTN model has the most upside (and the most downside) as the conference owns 100% of the network.

All SEC schools need the value of the. SEC network to go up.

Agreed the models differ but it showed a conference network can work.

I'm a little surprised we chose not to own the network or at least part of it. But we have had a long and profitable relationship with ESPN (they broadcast our SOFTBALL games) so maybe we wanted to keep on good terms with them.

The REC is getting an incredible return on that investment.

If the value of the network goes up, ESPN is the one that profits, not the SEC.

Say the SEC is a storefront landlord and gets 1 dollar a month rent leasing to ESPN. If ESPN puts a business in and they get 5 dollars, they keep the 4 and still just pay the SEC 1 dollar. In the B1G model the BTN gets 2.50 of that same 5 dollars and in the PAC model they get all 5 dollars as they are both the landlord and the business that goes into the space.

I guess no one took the time to figure out that each schools share went DOWN after adding the aggies and miz.

that's the kind of shite that oughta stop expansion in it's tracks. bigger ain't better.

if the sec network doesn't make this lost revenue up, I say kick the mo fo's out. we don't need subtraction by addition.

I read estimated payout next year to member schools, will be around $500 million. The SEC network is going to be an unbelievable plus for member schools.

There are more televisions in Texas, than there are in Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Louisiana combined.
