Someone that's never the life of the party, and they needs a little time at the party to warm up to begin to socialize with people.

Need more info - like what type of sales?

If they know their shite, absolutely. The talkative one may get my attention first, bit I will ditch him the moment I think he doesn't know shite about what he is selling.

You need to be personable and likeable to succeed in sales. All about knowledge and communication skills.

Based on your question you need to avoid sales.
To be successful in sales you need to know what you are selling, be confident, and be personable. From your post you are missing at least 2 of those.

It depends on the type of sales. Sales that involve cold calls would be tough for a shy person, but sales with an established account base would be doable.

Mortuary/Coffin sales maybe?

i wouldnt think so. Sales is all about networking, knowing the right people, etc. So if you really want to succeed you better be a part of your community. Rotary clubs and all that other jazz.
I hate stuff like that so i would not be very good at it.

Yes. The most important thing in sales is knowing your product and knowing your target customer.

I would think that if you can find a product to sell that you personally believe in that will go a long way in helping.

Of course they can. You can be shy, or slow to warm up to people, and still be very knowledgeable and personable.

They can. They need to overcome their shyness.
I would advise looking at a different career path though. It seems like an easy way to not enjoy your work.

I'm not the most outgoing person in the world but I work my arse off and know the product. I do pretty well.

I'll take an extrovert before an introvert all day...in fact I won't consider an introvert.

Sure, with some tenacity and willingness to get outside of their comfort zone.
But communicating clearly and confidently is extremely important.

I'm fairly shy, but I do enjoy meeting new people, and if you find the right position, it's not a boring career.
I couldn't survive if I had to go into the same office every day, all day, for the rest of my life.
Then again, I probably suck at my job, so don't listen to me.

A shy person definitely can. Most people can be successful enough in sales simply just because they make up their mind that they will be and put the work in. For some sales jobs, listening is just as important. What you're selling can definitely hurt you though if you are shy. Some things are just so competitive.

It also helps if you find a job in a field that you're interested in, and care about.

And I cannot reiterate this enough. The biggest mistake salesmen make is that they don't shut up.
