Dating back to 2009, when Gus Malzahn first became the offensive coordinator, Auburn has always found some way to win a football game. I give Gus Malzahn the majority of the credit during Gene Chizik's head coaching tenure, and that can be evidenced by him winning so many close games in 2013, and Gene Chizik not being able to find a way to win any in 2012 (except for UL Monroe). Below I have listed all of the close games Auburn has been in with Gus Malzahn on staff.

At some point, you have to give the guy some credit for being a great coach when the game is on the line. There's no way Auburn got "lucky" during all of these games, right?

2009:
vs West Virginia (W)
@ Tennessee (W)
vs Kentucky (L)
vs Ole Miss (W)
@ Georgia (L)
vs Alabama (L)
vs Northwestern (W)

2010:
@ Mississippi State (W)
vs Clemson (W)
vs South Carolina (W)
@ Kentucky (W)
vs Arkansas (W)
vs LSU (W)
vs Georgia (W)
@ Alabama (W)
vs Oregon (W)

2011:
vs Utah State (W)
vs Mississippi State (W)
@ South Carolina (W)
vs Florida (W)

2013:
vs Washington State (W)
vs Mississippi State (W)
@ LSU (L)
vs Ole Miss (W)
@ Texas A&M (W)
vs Georgia (W)
vs Alabama (W)
vs Mizzou (W)
vs Florida State (L)

By my count, Auburn is 24-5 in close games during Gus Malzahn's time at Auburn.

Auburn was at LSU's 5 yard line with a couple minutes left in the game, while the score was 35-21.

Let's not act like halftime is indicative of how the game ended up.

Right. Blowouts don't even count IMO.

So you almost cut it to less than 2 TDs once? Lol.

21-0 at half. 28-7 until 3 mins left in the 3rd, 35-14 until 6:33 in the 4th. A real nail biter. I'm sure it was the rain's fault though.

Did Malzahn coach the defense during those years? Several of the close games were won due to Auburn's defense stepping up.

There was also a very questionable onside kick call, that Auburn recovered. The truth is, Auburn played toe-to-toe with LSU for the final three quarters. Our guys just put themselves in a HUGE hole in the first quarter.

Yea, the defenses finally made a play, or stop, after giving up touchdowns all game long. Excellent logic. Only a couple of those games had the Auburn defense shutting down the other offense.
