Who, to you, was the last great, respectable, ethical news man/anchor.

For me, that man is Tim Russert.

News is different now. It's a big fricked up mess.

What if I told you that news anchors don't write the things they say?

What if I told you that the personalities that do the news today do a different job than the journalists that did their jobs a few decades ago.

Even when I was younger, I never really lent much credence to the actual news personalities.

Tbird, you weren't far off. There's only been a few. Just like any field of work. It's not like there's an occupation where 100% of the people in that industry are ethical. But there are great people in every field and the news industry isn't any different.

I know, and I wasn't trying to rag on you, honestly. I also didn't watch too much television news growing up so I never really preferred one outlet or personality over another.

I'm happy that I could entertain you while you browse ("cough, porn!") the internet on the taxpayer's dime.

Just kidding, bud.

I'd say you were just being nostalgic.

You would be 100% wrong. As someone who has held numerous AP cards in his billfold, i can say there's a difference in the complexion of the media now and the people as a whole who took that as their job 20-30 years ago. It's just a different time and ratings took over as the most important indication of drive and success. The daily show with John Stewart is the most unbiased news cast today. That is unfortunate, no matter how good his show is.

Yeah, the internet was invented and we have a 24 hour news cycle. We also have more than 3 channels now.

I'm a news junkie.

For local news, Ken Burns at KNOE in Monroe, La was not scared of anyone. I remember him knocking on the door of the Delhi, La major's house asking about his marijuana use.

Lee Zurick in Nola is doing a good job, hope he doesn't end up at the bottom of the Mississippi River.

As for national, I like Scott Pelty on CBS for 60 Minutes and CBS evening news. Laura Logan is so fine, but they cut her.

I make time each week to watch 60 Minutes, but it is no where near as hard hitting as it used to be.

I grew up on Dan Rather, and his politics aside, liked him till the Riverboat incident.

Today I really like Anderson Cooper as far as just news goes.

My dark horse is Chris Nakamoto. Dude was awesome during the Deedy Slaughter fiasco.
