If Jarnell Stokes doesn't return next season, Cuonzo's coaching career is over

This was his get out of jail free card and he let it slip away.

Next season's roster without Stokes will be middle of the pack in the SEC and he will be staring a 3rd NIT in 4 years and a scolding hot seat right in the face. A 5th year may be granted as a courtesy due to this year's 2 week run, but he has sealed his future in the profession with tonight's decision beyond that.

He'll return for his SR year and while playing TE for Butch, he will Kevin Ware his leg while attempting to catch a pass.

VOLS.

I agree with that.

If Stokes comes back though, UT may be really good next year.

Stokes and Richardson is a great foundation. We will finally have a true PG next year, and the incoming class, especially if we get the PF transfer, will add some talent to the roster.

He had his opportunity to capitalize on an extremely lucky run in the tournament, but instead is returning to coach an extremely mediocre roster full of his own players for the first time. The fanbase will not be pleased with this shitshow he has put on over the last few days and they were already pissed at him. An NIT (or even worse, a loss to Pearl at home next season) and it will all be over for him.

Huge professional mistake imo.

This is the exact scenario we feared with Dooley in '12, that talent would give him one season that would look like he's turning it around and we'd be stuck with him for another 2 years.

We dodged the bullet once. We were not so lucky the 2nd time.

That's for sure.

a) Marquette is a way better job.
b) They have way better fans.

Question: Who the hell did you think UT would replace him with?

This is all predicated on Stokes leaving, what if he stays?

I dont understand your fan base. I really dont. The guy was a blown call away from leading you to the Elite 8 and you claim he will be fired?

You wanna see someone that will get fired? Look at our recruiting class.

I see the OP's point, you have to strike while the iron is hot. But inspite of his lackluster recruiting, I'm glad he's decided to stay. One thing you really have to give him credit for is his ability to have his teams playing their best basketball at the end of the season. It's consistently been that way.
