CPJ now has the green light to bring in anyone he wants as long as they meet NCAA requirements.

Will he run the state now?

This frees him up to bring in kids regardless of GPA or SAT/ACT scores (within NCAA requirements) IF he thinks they can handle the academic rigors of GT. I promise you he's going to be careful with that. But, yes, this is a significant step in the right direction in regard to recruiting. To CPJ's credit, he earned this through his fair and honest recruiting practices and getting his kids to graduation.

The difficult part now is creating an atmosphere at GT that will lure those type kids consistently. That could take another 10 years.

big picture: GT set a fundraising goal of 2.5 billion dollars a few years back and the academic arm promised the athletic side more freedoms if the goal was reached.. dunno where all the money comes from, but Tech averages about 3 million in contributions per day bottom line however: Borderline types like Isaiah Crowell would still not be invited to play at Tech b/c obviously he would not be able to make it at Tech. (Still good new for us though.)

I don't know what the solution would be to recreate the football program's image, but loosened requirements and billions of dollars can't hurt.
It's a slippery slope, IMO. This is the company line right now so that the alumni base isn't frustrated by the news, but these types will be on campus sooner rather than later whenever a coach needs to save his arse. Richt didn't want Crowell, but he never would have won the East in 2011 without him and had he not won the East in 2011, then he wouldn't be the coach at UGA today. As soon as the season was over and he had good reason, Richt shipped him out of town. Hell, the charges were dropped against Crowell in the end.
Further, that was the overarching theme for that entire class. Crowell most fully represented the Dream Team. The entire class was based on Richt having to ignite the fanbase to save his job. He took chances on guys that he typically wouldn't: Crowell, Marshall, Seay, Sanders, Harrow, etc. He saved his job and as soon as he had reason, they were all let go.
It's the ugly truth, but that's pretty much how it went down and, at least IMO, the next GT coach after CPJ that needs to save his arse will attempt to do the exact same thing.

Paul's like FML... The Hill knocked that fricking crutch out from under him. He's "only" been able to carry 20% "special admits" up until now (about 21 outta 85). I bet a lotta bugs weren't aware the # was that high from reading their boards in the past. He's screwed now...

He averages about 4 "special admits" that's why the hill trusts him

For Tech it's really all about being able to extend an offer to more kids.. I think the hill is just now realizing how difficult recruiting has become & that GT could offer every 4star & 5star on the planet and it wouldn't mean success.. this is only phase 2 of a 5 part plan.

If any of those 5 phases/parts includes keeping CPJ - I'm all for it.

I promise you, he will only recruit players who can almost always count to four...

Crazy thing is, UGA never joining the AAU is part of the plan.
In a round-about- way, GT controls the Dawgs ability to spend big money(ipf for example)

Except that it's not true, for example.

What's not true? The Dawgs never gaining acceptance into AAU?
Posted on 3/14/14 at 7:35 pm to Chris_topher
You having control of our money because we aren't in the AAU.
We've been through the AAU crap. UGA gets millions in federal grant money every year, without the AAU stamp. Furthermore, other schools in AAU farm out a good deal of their research to UGA, so we get that money too.
Happy Birthday, by the way.
