RE- Carl Lawson
No explanation needed

DT- Gabe Wright
One of the more consistent DTs last year. This position will be DT by committee so hard to name starters.

DT- Angelo Blackson
Injuries sidelined him last year, but his combination of size and strength will be great for teams like Bama / LSU / UGA

LE- Owens
One of the more interesting battles to watch this spring. Owens will be the favorite but could be pushed by guys like President and Harrell

OLB- Kris Frost
Has the range needed to cover and get to the sidelines. Showed glimpses of quality last year, but was also inconsistent too often.

MLB- Cass Mckinzey
Hard hitter and great blitzer. Moving another LB like JG to the Star position should free up Cass to blitz even more.

Star- Justin Garret
Perfect size and skillset for the star position. This needs to happen in order to get all of our best players on the field

CB- Jonothon Mincy
No explanation needed. Our best cornerback this year. He just needs help over the top.

CB- Jonothon Jones
Another interesting battle to watch this spring. Jones started 2 games in 2012 but faced injuries last season. A lot of players say he is the fastest guy on the team.

SS- Derrick Moncrief
His ability to cover and tackle well would make him a good fit here. I doubt coaches will sit Whitehead, but I would love to see it happen.

FS- Robinson Therezie
The most athletic guy on the team and has great ball skills to hawk the field (4 ints last season).

DT was a hard position to name a starter. Monty Adams, Ben Bradley, and Elijiah Daniel all played well last season. EJ likes to rotate them so I'm not too worried about who starts. Keep an eye out for Jeff Whitiker this spring as well.

Ladarious Owens seems to have the LE spot locked up by default. The only way I could see him getting knocked back is if the coaches move Elijiah Daniel back to DE. The odd man out with the DBs is HOlsey. Hopefully the coaches find him a home this spring and get him in the rotation.

I would love to see a defensive front of Daniel and Adams at DT and Lawson and Owens at ends to give quarterbacks hell.

At linebacker, McKinzy and Frost will most likely be it but part of me wants Williams in the to break him in early in the season.

Star will most likely be Therezie again but it could be Garrett depending on how the other db spots pan themselves out.

Corner will be Mincy and Holsey or Jones.

Safeties will be Moncrief, we have to start getting use out of our JUCO guys early, and Whitehead

DE-Owens
DT-Wright
DT-Adams or Bradley
WLB-Frost
MLB-McKinzy
Star-Garrett
CB-Mincy
CB-Holsey
S-Therezie
S-Moncrief

Coaches weren't impressed with Blackson from what I remember. Holsey is a lock to be a starter somewhere.

Looking at that, I think we will be very good on the defensive line, but still pretty average in the back 7. I think we are still a year away from fielding an above average D. The db and safety class we signed this year is what will put us back in the upper half of sec defenses, but they are gonna need a year to develope.

Tons of seniors and juniors in our defensive two deep... nice problem to have. Could be the best auburn defense since we fired tuberville.

Not a bad group at all. Here's what I would love to see

RE - Carl Lawson
Really hoping to see him emerge as the sack leader this season

DT - Gabe Wright
I think he is poised for a big season. Big year out of him might help us in some DT recruiting battles as well

DT - Jeffery Whitaker
Finally will be healthy and is leader of the team

LE - LaDarrius Owens
Had an underrated season. Teams had to account for him which helped Ford

OLB - Kris Frost
I agree with you that these guys swap roles. I think with Frost's athleticism the outside will let him make some more plays. Plus he won't have to make the defensive calls

MLB - Cass McKinzy
If he develops like EJ thinks he can then we might finally have something to be proud of at MLB

Star - Justin Garrett
This one was hard for me but I got to think they want both Therezie and Garrett on the field

CB - Jonathan Mincy
Would like to see him turn a few of those passes defended into INTs this season

CB - Josh Holsey
Best athlete in the secondary in my opinion. Hopefully he can stay healthy for a full season

FS - Jermaine Whitehead
I thought JW quietly improved over the season. Made some athletic plays and I think he finishes his career strong

SS - Robenson Therezie
It still baffles me that it took this long for him to get on the field. I think getting him and Garrett both on the field is a priority as they might be the best defensive players in the back 7 that we have

Every single guy on that list not named Justin Garrett has played plenty of meaningful snaps. I expect our defense to be tougher next season. With our offense I don't know if we can ever be absolutely dominate but I expect us to give up less yards this season

The DT position is absolutely loaded this season. Adams, Bradley, and Blackson will all play a bunch and with Lambert and Daniel rotating in on pass rushing situations I gotta think our inside run defense should be strong. The depth at DE and CB scare me, especially corner. Need those guys to stay healthy this season or guys like Ruffin and Melton step up and make some plays

How are yall so sure Moncrief isn't another Brandon King? Holsey or Whitehead have played pretty good against the SEC.

What's so bad about Brandon King? He was fresh out of JuCo and had to adjust. He also had a lot of experienced players in front of him.

Holsey coming off an acl isn't going to be playing corner in the SEC.

IMO blz got it right... Would love to see Adams step up and earn a starting spot at DT.

They're saying where Holsey plays solely depends on how Moncrief does at Safety.

Who's 'they'?

Holsey is a safety... He was a safety in high school, and he was a safety last year. He played some corner as a frosh in 2012, but that's it.

247.

His Auburn Bio said he was a corner in High School and played in every game of 2012 at corner. I know he was originally recruited for corner. He played Safety last year because we desperately needed help back there.

He was recruited as a CB, but had to move to Safety when Meat was kicked off the team. Coaches like him at both position.

the coaches will move players to get the best 11 on the field and that means moving Holsey back to CB imo

He was a safety in high school. All his highlights are of him at safety. The only year he spent at CB was 2012.

He may have been recruited by the old staff as a corner, but that doesn't mean anything... his playing history suggests he's a more natural safety than corner.

And especially if he loses a step coming off acl reconstruction.

I wish Javy Mitchell could stay healthy. He is a sure tackler, athletic and strong. I'm really hoping he can lock up that 2nd string spot at WLB.
