Are there really any battles for starting spots? I can't think of any.

Probably RT would be a pretty good fight, depending on if they decide to slide Malone over or not.
The two safety spots should be a fun position to watch. I would hope Cox locks down one, but I guess it depends on how fast and how good Hughes looks once completely healed from his Achilles injury.
Weak Side Linebacker is probably another with Skinner gone, but our linebackers will all play no matter who starts.
The WR spot opposite Robert Johnson. Him and Jameon got those locked up but the other outside will probably be between Morrow Ross and Wilson.

RT, LG, wDE, OLB, SS, FS, and I'll even say CB with Redmond's emergence...
No clue who ends up with right tackle. I'm keeping an eye on it -- because if we don't move Senior over there for the competition, it means we feel pretty good about the position. He was pretty good as a backup to Clausell last year.
LG appears from a distance to be Clayborn's to lose.
wDE could be Chris Jones(assuming Nick James' continued development), Coleman, Ryan Brown or AJ Jefferson. Have to think it's AJ's spot at the start of spring, but no idea who ends up with it.
I think we can pretty safely say Beniquez gets Skinner's spot based on last year and him starting the bowl game over Skinner at the spot.
SS will be a good battle between Market and Hughes. Not really sure who wins that one.
FS apparently will be between Cox, Evans, and Antoine. Cox is obviously the favorite. We'll also have to see what we do with Arrington -- and him being moved to LB permanently would make it seem we feel pretty good about free safety IMO.
I think the corners will still be Love and Calhoun with Redmond in nickel -- but it could be really interesting.
I'm also interested to see who emerges as return guys. I kinda expect Redmond to get a serious look there as well...

I will not hold my breath on Nick James ever doing shite.

No one is.
But there's more and more reasons for hope with each report that comes out about him. Seems he's been mostly on the right track since Quay got booted.
That's not to say he won't relapse to the same shitshow as before though.
Fact is -- he's a luxury that could push us over the top. We'll be fine on the interior DL next year. It's what we do in 2 years after PJ, Eulls, and Virges are gone that concerns me.

Regardless of who wins the defensive battles, the guys that lose will certainly play because they are talented.
We are going to be frickIN salty on D next year and my wool is thick.

Yeah -- people don't really realize that we play 60+ deep every game -- and our backups on D get almost as many series as our starters. That's been key to building what I think will be a consistently very good defense going forward...
