Tomorrow I am interviewing for my companies sales training program and I'd like some tips on what to expect. I already know they are going to ask me questions like, "how to I handle stressful situations?" and stuff like that.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Show a great ability to be full of shite.

That's the definition of sales.

Or, better yet.

Find your soul and don't go to the interview.

If I had your views, I'd kill myself. What has made you such a bitter person?

I don't know shite about sales. So I'd take them out to a good restaurant and answer their questions over drinks and a nice steak. Then close them on myself at the strip club over drinks and titties.

Sorry lewis I had to. Good luck tomorrow and just be yourself.

The truth. Are most salesmen not full of shite? Is the profession not mostly predatory and manipulative?

And I separate my views from my personality in real life. Bitter would be the last thing someone that knows me would call me.

It seems as if you do know a lot about sales.

Most commercial salesmen I've dealt with were pretty straight forward.

I agree. Sales is a pretty fulfilling career. Don't know what I was thinking.

If they ask you to mock sell them something, remember SLIPIN.
Situation...Dear customer, tell me your current needs/situation.
Like...What do you like about your current product/situation?
Improve...What would you like improved about your current situation.
Problem..What kinds of problems has that caused?
Implied Need..So if we can help solve that together with our solution, that would help you?
Need Payoff...Knock them dead with your solution or agreement for proposal.

I've been in sales, in some capacity, since I was 16, and I don't consider myself full of shite or soulless. But I can see how someone could think that of salespeople. It's been my experience that the guys with integrity are the ones with the most successful careers.

What to expect? Well, they might take a pen off the desk and say, "Sell me this pen" or some other ridiculous item. As if this would in any way resemble how you would go about selling whatever your company produces.

Lots of "sales" jobs are more BD and lots of account management

Definitely think it depends on the job. If it's more about account retention and management it can be a little different.

It's just the nature of the profession in general that is a breeding ground for manipulative tactics and bs. You can be a pretty good guy, straightforward, love your friends and family, and still be full of shite.

I've had a few sales type jobs before so it's not like sales is completely foreign to me. I think the thing I really need to do is sell them on me and why they should choose me over the other candidates for the position.

If you know the type of questions they are going to ask, then think of specific situations where you have demonstrated the qualities they are looking for. Always ask for the postion, and make sure to have a couple of questions of your own.

If you over-exaggerate some previous accomplishments, the interviewer can usually sense it, and with further questioning, will usually be able to trip you up.

If you have some experiences that you feel could be relatable to sales, but wouldn't be obvious to the interviewer, be sure to point them out if the opportunity arises.

I know all of this sounds pretty generic, but good luck!

Well, damn. That's brilliant. Stick with that plan, can't go wrong.
