I agree on FSU.

I also think with Bo coming in and now with Drake looking to be back next year Flowers may be it for this class. Next year's group looks really deep.

Daron Payne is a 2015 5-star defensive tackle recruit from the state of Alabama, per 247Sports. The two schools he is favoring are the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers.

Bleacher Report College Football Analyst Michael Felder breaks down where Daron would fit best.

Which school do you think would be the better fit for Payne?

On to Harris then. His official is around the Iron bowl IIRC.

He showed up to his commitment ceremony in a tux with sunglasses on and walked through a line of cheerleaders and the marching band.

Looked ridiculous.

Can you imagine Coach Saban's face watching that kind of spectacle?

I didn't watch it. That is hilarious. I might have to watch it later.

This is the same kid that said last week that some "might be surprised at who he picks," and that only God knows his choice because he hadn't even told his mom yet.

Umm... everyone was pegging you to FSU since your sophomore year. Apparently we all have supernatural knowledge.

I was turned off long ago because of his attitude. We probably never had a shot in reality, but he admitted to playing coaching staffs for drama.

Don't see a problem with it. It was his big moment.

Sheffield
Cowart
Payne

If we finish with those 3, current composite rankings would give us 7 five stars. 7 composite five stars. Then if we flip Godwin that is 8.

Saban and staff

I'm not predicting we finish with those 4, but for fun say we do.

We'd have the:

#1 Dual Threat QB. #2 Overall QB
#1 Wide Receiver, #2 Wide Receiver*/#1 Athlete
#3 Tight End
#1 Offensive Guard, #3 Offensive Guard
#3 Weak Side Defensive End
#1 Strong Side Defensive End
#5 Defensive Tackle
#3 Cornerback, #4 Cornerback
#2 Safety

*= Godwin is listed as an athlete, but if you look at the overall rankings, the only WR ranked above him is Ridley.

Imagine the defensive depth chart next year.

A'Shawn Robinson
Jon Allen
Jarran Reed
Da'Shawn Hand
DJ Pettway
Daron Payne
Josh Frazier
Byron Cowart
Mekhi Brown
Rashaan Evans
Christian Miller
Reggie Ragland
Reuben Foster
Ryan Anderson
Denzel Devall
Dillon Lee
Tony Brown
Eddie Jackson
Marlon Humphrey
Minkah Fitzpatrick
Kendall Sheffield
Hootie Jones
Ronnie Clark
Deionte Thompson

I'm not even gonna keep going.

In garbage time. I'm not sure he has gotten any reps with the 1s yet.

I don't follow recruiting much, but noticed no highly ranked offensive tackle in your list. I know we got Cam Robinson last year, so maybe it wasn't a critical need (I would love to have at least one blue chip tackle every year). Did we miss on getting a blue chip tackle this year? Not really go after anyone? Will be important to find the next prototype next year if we don't take one this year - how is that looking?

Either gonna land 1 or 2 OTs out of:

Isaiah Prince
Matt Womack

Then there are lesser chances with Jalen Merrick and Jerry Tillery. Almost certain to land one of Prince and Womack though.

Free info from TI:
quote:

It's tough to say who might be the Tide's next commitment, but linebacker Adonis Thomas (6-4, 220, 4.5) of Lawrenceville-Central Gwinnett, GA is one to keep a close eye on. Thomas, who de-committed from Florida last week appears to favor Alabama over LSU at this point, according to his high school coach in an interview with TI on Monday. A decision might come fairly soon.

There is no doubt that Alabama got the full attention of Seffner-Armwood, FL linebacker/defensive end Byron Cowart, the nation's top prospect according to some, during his recent official visit to UA. Some think the Tide now leads for the 6-3, 265-pounder, but the Florida a Gators, in spite of the uncertainty of their coaching situation, will be right there until the end.

As we mentioned last week, we still think Shades Valley DL Daron Payne (6-3, 335) is a strong lean to Alabama over Auburn and Mississippi State.

Word coming out of Texas is that star corner Kendall Sheffield (5-11, 180, 4.39) of Missouri City-Ft Bend Marshall is no longer the slam dunk for Texas A&M that he was once thought to be. Alabama appeared to be the Aggies main competition until Sheffield took a recent visit to FSU. The Tallahassee trip got Sheffield's attention and some think the Seminoles are now the team to beat. A source very close to the situation continues to tell TI to not count out the Tide. The source thinks Alabama is still in good position and will make a major move when Sheffield takes his official visit to Tuscaloosa on December 12.

A source tells TI that the Tide's chances of flipping Senatobia-Magnolia Heights, MS mammoth OT Matt Womack (6-7, 335) from LSU are good. Many have thought that nearby Ole Miss would snag Womack, and that might happen, but until recently the Rebs had not made Womack a huge priority because they didn't feel that he fit the style of OT they need for their offense. But due to a lack of top OTs in the 2015 class, the Rebels have turned up the heat on the power blocking Womack. Sources tell TI that Womack understands that he's probably a better fit at Alabama or LSU.

We might not know a lot more about Greenbelt-Eleanor Roosevelt, MD OT Isaiah Prince (6-6, 280) until he makes his official to Alabama on January 16. Prince has had Alabama, Florida, Maryland and Ohio State high on his list. Maryland, with ace recruiter Mike Locksley, has made Prince a top priority for their class. Florida has been considered the Tide's main competition over the last several months.

Keep an eye on FSU DL commit DJ Jones, a 6-2, 315-pounder at East Mississippi CC. Jones is close friends and stays in regular contact with former EMCC teammates and current Tide DLs DJ Pettway and Jarran Reed. Jones is considered one of the top interior DLs in the JUCO ranks. It will be interesting to see if UA turns up the heat soon on Jones, who is a December grad.

Don't be surprised to see another JUCO standout or two (in addition to DJ Jones) emerge for the Tide in the coming weeks.

This is not a complete list of prospects still being pursued by the Tide staff.

Lester Cotton will play tackle at Alabama. Hell, he plays it central and has gone on the record as saying the Bama staff likes the idea of him at tackle. Cotton is an absolute beast, it's easy to overlook the guys that commit early.

No way Lester plays tackle at Bama. He is too much of a mauler IMO. He will be a ingside and we will run behind him like we did with Warmack.
