Alabama hosted several commitments in the class of 2015 for its big win over Texas A&M on Saturday, and the highest-rated 2016 pledge was among the group of visitors as well. Shyheim Carter’s trip to Tuscaloosa was his first for a game this year and offered him a chance to catch up with old friends.

Class of 2016 Alabama commitment Shyheim Carter made his first trip to Tuscaloosa on Saturday to see the Crimson Tide clobber Texas A&M, but he nearly didn’t make it in.

“We got there a little late, because we had car trouble, but I talked to Coach (Nick) Saban and the rest of the coaching staff when we got there,” he said. “I talked to the players there, Bradley Sylve, Landon Collins, Reggie Ragland and a few other guys.

“I talked to Coach (Burton) Burns and Coach Saban before and after the game, they’re just ready for me to come up there and I’m ready to come up there. I can’t wait to get through this year-and-a-half of high school.”

Planning on enrolling at Alabama in January of 2016, Carter admits that he doesn’t need to be recruited as much by the Crimson Tide staff, though it still puts in work with the four-star athlete when he’s on campus. Otherwise, it’s more casual and has been since he pulled the trigger in mid-July.

“It’s a bit of both,” he said of UA’s approach. “They still recruit me pretty hard, and my commitment to Alabama is pretty solid. I just love the atmosphere up there, there’s nothing I dislike about Alabama. I like everything about Alabama.“

The showing the program put on in front of a national television audience certainly didn’t hurt the perception from the junior out of Kentwood (La.) High School.

“A few weeks before, we played Ole Miss and weren’t looking to good, but they really impressed me,” he said. “Landon Collins impressed me, Tony (Brown) impressed me, the whole defense did. I like everything they run, it’s my type of playing, I fit that type of plan.

“I just like everything abuot it. Every time I’m on my way to Alabama, I just get that feeling. I just love it. It was basically the best thing I’ve ever been to. The crowd was in it and everybody was into the game.”

Several players he has a relationship with also factor into Alabama’s hold on Carter’s commitment.
“I hang out with Landon and them, and I ran track against Bradley in my seventh grade year,” he said. “Me and him have been in contact ever since. Then me and him, Landon, and others always hang out when I’m up there. Down here, I stay in the country, there’s nothing down here that I don’t see up there. I just like it better up there than I do down here.

“When (I’m there), we just talk about the game, how they’ve been doing, how I’ve been doing, life and school up there.”

The No. 47 2016 prospect in the class and No. 3 cornerback projection at 5-foot-11, 184 pounds, Carter is still hearing plenty from other programs and he welcomes it. He’s still early in the recruiting timeline committed to a program or not, and he’ll make sure he has a full experience before he takes the next step.
But he maintains his status and satisfaction with his decision in the process.

“I call my recruiting coaches every week,” Carter said. “After ‘Bama, I call Clemson, Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas A&M. I still want to take all my visits. Besides Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ole Miss and Mississippi State are recruiting me very hard.

“But my commitment is solid, I’m not going nowhere.”

Plenty of prospects live in the moment on the recruiting trail despite being committed to a school, visiting as many schools as possible, and who could blame them? The process enables teenagers with a once in a lifetime ability to see America, while those like Keaton Anderson stay with the traditional route.

The classic recruiting process is what got Keaton Anderson scholarship offers, eventually allowing him to commit to Alabama, and he’s steadied the timeline the whole way through. Now, as an in-state commitment, he’s not set to waver by any degree.

Not planning on seeing any other programs as a prospective athlete, the three-star Florence (Ala.) linebacker did make a return trip to Tuscaloosa on Saturday to see the dominant win over Texas A&M. It’s no secret that he, like most prospects in attendance, liked what he witnessed.

One could even say he expected a one-sided affair.
“You could just tell, when you went out and saw the players and the fight in their eyes that they had that ‘it’s time to get things done and put up a big win’ (look),” he said. “I wasn’t surprised really, maybe 59-0 was a little surprise, but I’m not surprised they won big. It’s extremely impressive, the way they played.”
Also of little surprise, Scout.com’s No. 13 middle linebacker projection had his eyes on Kirby Smart’s bunch from whistle to whistle.

“I watched the whole defense, and of course the linebackers,” Anderson said. “It was cool to see everybody get into the rotation. Of course Reggie (Ragland), he had a heck of a ballgame, big interception, and more big plays. And then Reuben Foster coming down on kickoff and making some huge hits, Shaun Dion (Hamilton) got to play, so it was cool seeing a true freshman in like that.

“Seeing some young guys get in, the whole defense play well, it was pretty cool.”

Perhaps unlike most of the names the senior prospect mentioned, his recruitment is a quiet one. He’s not planning to see any other schools in between now and enrolling in Tuscaloosa. In fact, there may not be a need for the staff to delegate time into courting one of its top in-state pledges any longer.

“When I go to Alabama now, it’s not for a recruiting purpose,” Anderson said. “It’s more so that I just want to go watch my future team play and see some of the guys. So when I go, I hang out with my family and catch up with my friends. I’ll go down to the field, nowhere else. I got to talk to Coach (Kevin) Steele a little bit, and we don’t talk about football much. We talk about off the field stuff and see how our families are doing. Then I go sit with my family, I don’t even sit with the recruits anymore.

“They’re not trying to persuade me anymore, there’s no need for that. So they say what’s up and then they go talk to the priorities they need to get.”

In the meantime, fellow Crimson Tide commitments made time to hang out before getting back to their own families or before turning on their recruiter senses as well.

“I talked to some of the committed guys, Mekhi (Brown), Christian (Bell), Blake (Barnett), Brandon (Kennedy), Lester (Cotton),” he said. “We all know each other personally now; we all stay in communication pretty often – once or twice a week.”

The scenario won’t duplicate on Saturday as Anderson visits Knoxville for Alabama’s next game, against a rival with family ties to the Tide pledge. While there, some of the family will wear Tennessee orange, but Anderson will go against the grain and wear crimson while viewing the game alongside the group in the stands.
Carson Anderson, Keaton’s older brother and former Volunteer offensive lineman, will not hold that against him over the next few seasons.

“The four or five years I’m at Alabama, he’s wearing Crimson, even when we play Tennessee,” he said. “Family comes first, so he’ll do it to support me.”

Anderson has no official visit to Alabama planned at this time, but will likely take the trip sometime after the 2014 season as he concentrates on trying to lead the Florence Falcons the school’s first football state championship

I know that some bama fans aren't excited about his commitment, but it is nice to see a kid that doesn't need the world to revolve around him and his recruitment.

So what's the latest on Godwin, Jefferson, and cowart said he was just considering coming back for visits?

Godwin wasn't there.

Jefferson had kind of a "meh" response, but the interview was from his dad who is a gator fan. Not sure if that is what Jefferson is communicating to him, or if his dad is having a hard time with the possibility that his son might not be a gator when all is said and done. Jefferson did go on twitter and say after his Bama visit that he still hasn't experienced an atmosphere as "live as the Grove."

With Cowart it was a different vibe. It almost sounded like it is a Bama/UF battle. He was talking up the similarities between Alabama and his high school program. He was also saying that he has visited UF 3-4 times, so he needs to give Alabama equal attention. He has OVs planned for different schools, but sounded like he may cancel those to visit Bama for Miss St. and Iron Bowl. He said he doesn't expect to be recruited as hard by the coaches the next time he visits, but to hang out with the players and make sure that what he felt this weekend is the same. "Seeing if it still feels like home there" was one of the lines he gave BOL. Sounded very promising.

Per a poster on BOL, the OV's that Cowart currently has scheduled that conflict with Miss St/Iron Bowl are Florida and Florida State.

O/T, but I know some of you are interested in SEC recruiting as well as Bama recruiting.

I was reading the 247 Ag board and a 4* linebacker and his mom drove from Alpharetta GA to College Station TX to meet with Sumlin a couple weeks ago. Sumlin didn't even take the time to speak with him. His name is Quart'e Sapp (sp?). Sumlin apparently invited him, but he only met with assistant coaches.

I couldn't imagine CNS not at least meeting with a 4* who traveled that far to see him. With the dumpster fire that is Ag defense, you would think they would welcome him with open arms.

Florida State Win Impresses SEC Commit

Alabama commit Demetris Robertson was one of several big name recruits in Tallahassee, Fla. for Florida State's comeback 31-27 win over Notre Dame. Robertson came away very impressed with the 'Noles.

"I had a great time last night," Robertson told Bleacher Report. "My favorite part had to be the atmosphere and the fans. I didn't know so many of them recognized me. They showed a lot of love."

Robertson decided to commit to the Crimson Tide last July after Alabama's summer camp. Since that time Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, and USC have offered the 6'1, 165-pound athlete from Savannah, Ga. The Tide will have to fight off a long list of suitors to keep Robertson on the commitment list starting with the 'Noles.

The 5-star told me, "Their receivers are on point. Travis Rudolph caught my eye. Coach (Charles) Kelly is my primary recruiter. FSU is moving up for me."

Georgia will likely make a move too, but the Seminoles could be a major threat to Alabama for the dynamic athlete from the Peach State. We are going to keep an eye on this situation with a long way to go until National Signing Day in 2016.

Tough Visit To The Swamp For In-State OL and 5-star RB

The hot seat in Gainesville has now reached it's boiling point following the Gators 42-13 loss to Missouri at The Swamp. A couple of weeks ago I said if Florida could land 5-star defensive linemen Byron Cowart and CeCe Jefferson combined with a respectable 8-4 record then head coach Will Muschamp may want to ask for a raise. Now Florida limps into into the bye week with speculation that Muschamp may be out following a loss to rival Georgia on Nov. 1

Despite the blowout the defense played exceptional only yielding a total of 119 yards of total offense. In fact, Florida is the only school in the last ten seasons to give up less than 120 yards and lose:

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian two-way standout Kendrick Norton took an unofficial visit to Florida for the lopsided loss. Norton said he was impressed with the defense and the environment.

"It was a great atmosphere. Even the game wasn't close the crowd stayed in it the whole time," said Norton. "The defense played great. I was surprised with how the offense turned the ball over. I figured Florida would win because of their defense and let the offense get a few field goals while holding onto the ball, but they couldn't do that."

Norton lines up at offensive guard and defensive tackle for Trinity Christian. Florida wants the 6'3, 305-pounder 4-star stalwart on defense.

"I watched Florida's defensive line and they got after them like always," added Norton. "Coach (Brad) Lawing is a great coach. He is always works with them and they have some talented guys."

When asked about the outcome of the game and Coach Muschamp's job status? Norton had this to say, "They've only lost three games, so they would have to lose a lot more for them to drop out of my top (favorites). If something happens and Coach Lawing leaves then I will have to reconsider things with Florida."

For now, Norton still has the Gators firmly in his list of top schools along with Miami and others. He is going to keep an eye on the situation in Gainesville to see if any changes will be made. He is planning his official visit to Miami for the Florida State game in Nov.

Last Friday, Muschamp made a final pitch to 5-star running back Jacques Patrick. Recruiting analyst Blake Alderman was the first to report that Patrick was on campus at Florida.

Patrick told me, "Yes I was at Florida. I'm now certain on what I needed to know and I'll make my decision next week (Oct. 27)."

Patrick will likely decided between Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. The 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions have him as a 100% lock to FSU. However, Patrick chose to be in Gainesville over the weekend instead of FSU's game against Notre Dame. Does that meaning anything? Probably not, but give Muschamp credit for giving Florida a fighting chance.

No baseball recruiting thread?

A friend of our's son just committed to Bama today! He and my son have grown up together (their birthdays are a few days apart).

I'm not going to post his name yet until I see it elsewhere but this kid is GOOD.

He is being recruited by LSU, UNC, USCe, and some others. He's only a sophomore. His dad coaches Juco ball and played a little major league ball.

I'm so excited for him AND for Bama. He's going to be a good one for us!

2016 4-Star John Broussard Impressed by Bama's Dominant D

Yellowhammer State star John Broussard was in Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Tide's 59-0 romp over Texas A&M. Broussard said the defense and the secondary really stood out in the win.

"It was great and the atmosphere was cool," said Broussard. "I was watching Landon Collins and Tony Brown in the secondary. I really thought it was going to be a close game and come down to the wire, but Alabama came out strong and came out with the win. The visit was an 8 on a scale of 1-10. I loved seeing Amari Cooper play too."

Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is Broussard's primary recruiter.

"Whenever we talk we have a real good conversation," noted Robertson. "He's a good guy."

Alabama figures to have some competition for the 4-star cover man. Auburn, Georgia, and Kentucky for the Central High School standout out of Phenix City, Ala. Broussard has been to Auburn twice this fall and each time it gets better according to Broussard.

"The stadium and atmosphere is great," added Broussard. "When you are standing up in the crowd the whole place is shaking."

Broussard said his next trip will likely be to Kentucky for the Georgia game. LSU is the other school in the fold for Broussard. He called the Tigers his dream school and said he talks to defensive backs coach Corey Raymond every two or three days.

The tough defender is planning to decide later on during his junior year. He told me if he doesn't commit in May he will probably do it on Signing Day of his senior season.
