Little Rock School district and the college football athletes 2014

So I was out and about this morning grabbing breakfast and decided to donate $2.00 to the ArkDemGaz dying business fund. This rag is still really bad, and all of the articles have already been hashed and rehashed (including Richard Davenport's 3 topics) on twitter and other online sites.
Anyways, I did find something very interesting printed on page 9c of the sports section. It was a list of all of the current Razorback recruits, In-State commitments/signees, and players going out of state, strangely absent was Ark State univ's list.
With all that being said and as of now, I counted one single player that has committed or signed a football scholarship, and that was Daryl Coburn DT, from LR Central that is committed to play at Missouri State. I also checked Arkansas State's commitment list and they don't have a single player from LRSD.
LRSD consists of 5 high schools in this district: Central, Parkview, Hall, McClellan and Fair.
Rough Enrollment #'s
Central- 2500
Parkview- 1200
Hall- 1300
McClellan- 900
Fair- 900
That's 6,800 students in this district and only one player is committed to play college football. The list in the ArDemGaz included the following schools:
UA
Ark Tech
UCA
Harding
Henderson St
Lyon
Ouachita Baptist
Southern Ark
Out of state schools included:
Bama
Memphis
Missouri State
Northwestern (LA) State
Perdue
Tulsa
Its a damn shame how far HS football has fallen in this school district. There are many reasons for this, but I have always said that lack of strong parental involvement in these sports programs are the #1 reason for the state that its in.
ps: only counted 5 players committed from Pulaski county alone.

Central hasn't had a good player since Charles Clay and he was only good enough to get a ride to Tulsa. You aren't missing out on much.

The equipment at Central is terrible
Plus coach Register really isn't that good of a coach. Couple that with a big disinterest in football (I saw more people wearing shirts with whatever the biggest team was than Arkansas shirts) and its no wonder why there are hardly any big recruits.
Those private schools have the benefit of way more money. Two years ago some kid came from one of the LR private schools and went to Central and paid for new helmets for the entire team. You can't compete with that when most of the players are getting the reduced lunches

About 2 months ago they finally ran a huge story about the decline of LRSD and the fortunes of Razorback football.
Of course I've been railing on the subject for 2 years on the msg boards. Since you're a LR person, you may find it worth your time and $ to get a day pass and find the article online.
The article does appear to rehash a lot of what people posted in the threads I've started on the subject, but they did go interview some people formerly involved in the LRSD that are now in other districts and they gave some good insight into the differences in the public and private C. Ark schools and the suburban schools that benefitted from not just white flight but everyone flight away from that clusterfrick and the hamstringing of the desegregation lawsuit and bussing policy.
It's really criminal how the feds and the A.A. community have stolen hundreds of millions of dollars from the state and more costly is the souls and heartbeats of the neighborhoods and local communities have been stolen from LR as well. If they ever audit the school districts, I promise they'll find sticky hands and embezzled funds at all levels of that things.

I remember the article, wasn't it done by sportinglifearkansas.com?
Its a gottam fricking disaster down here, the only good public athletic program left is NLR.

The gang wars of the 90s killed high school football in Little Rock. It just wasn't safe to go to the games and it has never recovered.

Bolding is a douche though. He goes around recruiting players from other high schools and probably middle schools... he got Centrals best LB to transfer and then took another player on a "visit"

That wasn't a troll, it's the reason for the decline of high school football in Little Rock.
I lived in Lower Arkansas for my entire life before moving to Fayetteville for school, and I saw it happen first hand. Before the gang wars you had D-1 players coming out of Little Rock public schools every year. Then the gangs made Friday night football games a meeting spot and you had shootings every week.
It wasn't safe to attend football games in Little Rock during this time, and people lost interest. It has never recovered.

can you blame any of the kids that transfer? I can't.

I don't blame them, but going around actively recruiting them is a bit of a scummy thing to do

Conway and Cabot are pretty solid. Bryant isn't terrible, but the Saline county schools are all about baseball. Benton and Bryant could turn out some great football players if the youth football programs got even half of the support as youth baseball.
There are some athletes in the LRSD, they just don't play football. Little Rock has become a basketball town.

So when will good basketball players come out of there? I mean more than 1 every 6 years.

Bobby Portis, Anton Beard (yes he now plays for NLR, but he was at Parkview for 3 years), AJ Walton, IJ Ready, and Aaron Ross are a few.
