Do we have any turf management majors here?

Chris Fowler just reported they'll tear up the grass and put a new field on the Rose Bowl after the MSU-Stanford game.
1. Can grass take root in 4 days amount of time?
2. Why do they continue to insist on doing this when it's failed before?
3. The field looks fine now..why take that risk?

They did the same thing 4 years ago.

The field conditions were terrible in the 2010 National Championship.
Oregon and Auburn struggled.

They did it in Glendale and it failed miserably..don't want that same thing to happen again

As a running team it seams obvious they're sabotaging the Plainsmen's effort.

I'm anything but a turf scholar ... but it seems like this is done w such regularity now (see baseball/football stadium turf conversions), it's old hat. I'm sure it's a better option than playing on a field that's been mucked up a few days prior.

frick. That hurts the running game no doubt.....

It's easier to run with the ball than run passing routes on unstable turf..soooo

They should strip the turf and soil clean off the field and have FSU and Auburn play on the bedrock.

It's the rose bowl dude. They will figure it out.

I'm a golf course superintendent so I should qualify. The short answer is no. I'm not sure the reasoning behind this other than aesthetics from the blimp. For the biggest/most important game of the year they might as well play it on a hockey rink.

Just like they figured it out in the past.

The humidity of bringing the field into the dome @. Glendale is what caused that turf to be slick. Won't be an issue in Pasadena since the rose bowl is outdoors 24-7-365

It won't take root but most of the time when this is done, the sod is put down in rolls 3-4' wide and 100-150' long. This makes the sod very heavy which in turn, makes it hard to move. When the sod is rolled out, the seam is pulled tightly together which also makes the playing surface more stable. It certainly isn't as stable as sod that has has time to root but it is playable.

They occasionally pull a big tent over it and have midget wrestling contests, so he isn't entirely accurate.
