Officials on the field ruled the runner was down before the ball came out

Yes, this play was whistled down before the ball or anything else even hit the ground.

Syracuse running back Brisly Estime, as you can see, was nowhere near the ground. No defenders or blockers were on the ground until the ball was already out. No cheerleaders were on the ground. Otto was not on the ground. Several photographers' knees were on the ground. But the ball-carrier was not on the ground, not even close.

They had to have replay to rule it was a fumble.

That was a horrible call, but I haven't seen anything else really egregious, IMO

I saw it when it happened, I shot beer out of my nose when they made that call.

So then they corrected themselves, which is what the official review is for. Nothing to see here...

Minnesota is in DGAF mode. Hopefully they'll show a little heart in 2nd half. 3 missed tckles on 1st play by Syracuse, not looking good.

Yeah every time I see SEC refs assigned to a bowl game I feel like apologizing to the two teams.

since you are an updyke, I would have guessed that the last thing you would do would be to complain about SEC ref's....they are transported to the games in sabans back pocket

Sec refs are shitty sometimes. The fumble we recovered vs aubie, targeting on Ray Drew and Ramik Wilson. That being said, most of the time they get it right but it sucks to have officiating cost a team a game but I guess the object is to not leave a game in the officials hands.

If there was an IW when the runner had the ball, the offensive team has the option to get the ball where it was when the whistle was blown or repeat the down.

If the ball was loose, then the team last in possession has the option to take there or repeat the down.

In order for the defense to get the ball, the IW had to occur AFTER change of possession (recovery of a fumble).

Those are the only options

HERE is the play with the whistle. The IW occurred when the ball was loose so they screwed up twice. It should have been Syracuse's ball where the whistle occurred or replay the down.

They fricked up bad
