Nebraska won 45-6, which remains the worst loss ever for an SEC team in a bowl game.(note the football decal with the '100' on Nebraska's helmet as several teams did that in the centennial yr of college football). Nebraska went into the game 8-2 and co-champs of the Big 8 with Missouri.

Georgia limped in at 5-4-1 after being a pre-season choice to repeat as SEC champion along with Ole Miss. Georgia was in the top 10 and then lost to Ole Miss and Archie in Jackson (the first of Ole Miss' 3 wins in Jackson over SEC foes ranked in the top 10 at kickoff) and fought back to #11 at 5-1. Eventual SEC champ Tennessee beat them and then Georgia and Florida tied in the Cocktail Party.A loss to Auburn led the Bulldogs to believe they were headed to the Peach, but the Sun who had not scouted them offered the bowl bid and they accepted. Unfortunately 3-6 Georgia Tech upset Georgia 6-0 to send them to El Paso on an 0-3-1 skid.

To make things worse, QB Mike Cavan and RB/Return man Bruce Kemp didn't play due to injury. And,Nebraska did win the next two National titles in 1970 and 1971.

Still..45-6 ??

You said it yourself, we were 5-4-1 going in, you're surprised we lost?

Like omg LSU lost by 5 touchdowns several decades ago in a bowl game too.

Lighten up,Francis. No one was surprised Georgia lost, just the margin. The whole point of the post was it was on Dec 20 and today is Dec 20.

its cool. And yes,Oklahoma destroyed LSU in the 1950 Sugar, 35-0. What made that worse was two LSU fans (one named Goober ) hid in a tree trying to spy on OU. Bud Wilkinson found out about it and was livid even though it was pretty well known that LSU didn't have anything to do with it.

Jesus Christ... There was only 11 Bowl games played in 1969. What the Hell was a 5-4-1 team doing playing in a Bowl?...

Rose, Sugar, Cotton, Orange, Bluebonnet, Peach, Gator, Tangerine, Sun, Liberty & Pasadena Bowls...
