Because people do not remember the timeline of these comments and are being idiots, I remade this thread

One week before the SEC championship game when USC was #1 , Ohio State #2 and UF #3
quote:

It’s called winning and losing and playing a difficult schedule.

link to USA Today detailing this

Post game quote at the time

quote:

"Here's our style: You got at Tennessee, you've got Kentucky, you've got Alabama, LSU, Georgia and Auburn and at Tallahassee," Meyer said, recalling much of Florida's schedule. "So much for style. You want to put that one against anyone in the country, let's go ahead and go.

"If that's what's making decisions, then I'm going to stand by my comment from a week ago. Implode it. It's over. If that's what's making the decisions -- style points, which I imagine that's what it is -- we've got a problem. It's called winning and losing and playing a difficult schedule."

In 2006 he was lobbying to get in the game over a 1 loss Michigan, which would have been a rematch of both OSU and Michigan's last game. This is a different situation.

Are you a fricking moron? Did you read the thread title in which I clearly claimed this was incorrect or read the article I linked that details the timeline of this argument?

Yes I did. It still says his comments were AFTER the SEC title game.

Clearly you didn't. USC was only ranked ahead of Florida at a time in which they were undefeated which would have made at least two undefeated teams ahead of UF

quote:

In 2006, before taking over at Ohio State, Urban Meyer argued his then fourth-ranked, one-loss Florida Gators should jump over Ohio State, USC, and Michigan to play in the title game because those teams didn't have as tough a schedule.

The right call was made in 06. Don't drag us into this.

Too bad for you Einstein that this doesn't hold up. OSU and Michigan played the weekend before the SEC title game and were idle hat weekend.

Nothing in the article substantiates your claim.

USC had already lost earlier that day. Michigan had lost 2 weeks before and hadn't played. YOU are the one that is reading it wrong. At that point his argument was only Michigan. UF was never going to jump over an undefeated OSU. Many people were wanting a OSU/UM rematch, and Urban was arguing it.

OSU is undefeated. Comparing his 2006 comments to this year's situation is a reach, at best.

From ESPN article about the SEC title game:

"One team Florida doesn't have to worry about: Southern California. The No. 2 Trojans were knocked out by a 13-9 loss to UCLA, which finished off its stunning upset while the Gators were in the locker room at halftime."

You are right, that quote was in correctly timed but Urban Meyer did make claims that UF deserves to be in before as detailed in the USA today article I linked. He is straight up quoted as

quote:

It’s called winning and losing and playing a difficult schedule.

Of course he did. The article I linked said that he and the UF players wanted their shot at an undeafeated OSU because:

"Michigan already had its chance," said freshman Percy Harvin, who was MVP of the Gators' 38-28 win over No. 8 Arkansas on Saturday night. "I think we deserve a chance."

One week before the SEC Championship when USC was still undefeated as you pointed out

quote:

It’s called winning and losing and playing a difficult schedule.

USC wasn't undefeated. They lost on October 28th to Oregon State and the same day as the SECCG to UCLA.

I respect the dude to some degree. Definitely had a lot of respectable teams' numbers at Florida. There was one time I remember in 2008 didn't he beat SC like 56-3?
