With all due respect to Chattanooga, it's basically Iron Bowl week (for the fans at least). With Alabama's thrilling hard fought victory over MSU on Saturday night, we are finally to the point in the season when Auburn and Alabama have played all of their common opponents. This year there were six of them, so a pretty nice sample size.

Scores were:

Auburn 24, MSU 20 / Bama 20, MSU 7
Auburn 21, LSU 35 / Bama 38, LSU 17
Auburn 30, Miss 22 / Bama 25, Miss 0
Auburn 45, A&M 41 / Bama 49, A&M 42
Auburn 35, Ark 17 / Bama 52, Ark 0
Auburn 55, Tenn 23 / Bama 45, Tenn 10

Totals points (common opponents):

Auburn 5-1 with a 210-158 score differential. Average score Auburn 35.0, Opponent 26.3 (Auburn wins by 8.7 a game).

Alabama 6-0 with a 229-76 score differential. Average score Bama 38.2, Opponent 12.7 (Bama wins by 25.5 a game).

Total Yards (common opponents):

Auburn has outgained the six common opponents 2,731 to 2,638. That's an average of Auburn 455.2 ypg, Opponent 439.7 ypg (Auburn outgains opponent by 15.5 ypg).

Alabama has outgained the six common opponents 2,768 to 1,892. That's an average of Bama 461.3 ypg, Opponent 316.3 ypg (Bama outgains opponent by 146 ypg).

Offensively, the numbers are very close through the six opponents. Difference thus far has been defense.

And of course as always games come down to individual and stylistic matchups in specific games, but games against common opponents are always interesting to me at this point in the season.

TLDR.

Sure. No more threads discussing the game. Just say "Iron Bowl."

You sure went through a lot of trouble looking all that up. I feel like it would be rude of me not to post a sincere and though out response.

Ummmmm.

Sorry, got nothing.

During Iron Bowl week, you can throw all statistics out the window unless Gene Chizik is your coach.

Nah. The better team usually wins, it's just that fans remember the upsets more.

Nope. I wouldn't spend 5 minutes putting that stuff together.

Your care level is more than my care level.

Nice post dude. Thanks for the info. Common opponents sometimes don't have anything to do with the outcome but I agree it is interesting. We are the best team so we SHOULD win. I think the Barners may try to make this game interesting. They're all amped up because they've exceeded expectations and I completely understand that. Gus has them going in the right direction. It's gonna be great to break their spirits but it's gonna suck balls if they pull off the upset. to a 3-peat!!
