What would be negative about Smart taking over after Saban leaves?

He isn't my first choice of replacements but I think he'd at least keep the attitude and discipline of the team intact. By now he surely has a grasp of how to run the program right?

I see many Alabama fans are really against this idea. What gives?

I think the bad influences of Mack Brown wore off on Muschamp

Huh? Muschamp is the exact opposite of Mack. Texas coaches aren't even allowed to swear at the players. Muchamp uses frick as a noun, pronoun, adverb, verb, and adjective. Sometimes in the same sentence. He also has a reputation as a pretty over the top relentless recruiter, whereas Mack is lazy as shite. Any failings on his part stem from interference with the offense or poor hirings on that side of the ball. I think he'd be a good coach if he hired a competent OC and let him have free reign over the offense. I feel the same way about Kirby.

I think it's the reason Kirby has stuck around, I don't see Nick staying any more than 4 years. I'd be fine with him taking over, but I do t think he would have a rough few years before he really got going.

i am 100% happy with KS..He has been with NS a long time and has enough experience to keep the program running in the same direction. IF we hired a "proven" winner they would still have to put their system in place which would lead to a season or two of uncertainty. With KS there is nothing that changes with the systems.

I really want him to go to an NC State or something like that where he can get his feet wet before jumping full time. If we could get a Gary Patterson or someone who has a similar philosophy to what we run here, I would be okay with it. I don't think I would like it if we went out and got an Art Briles since his system would not fit at all with the current talent in place.

ETA: Also, I delivered food to KC and he is a very mediocre tipper.

We've thought Kirby would have took a different job since at least 2009 yet is still at Alabama, I wonder if that has to do with the fact certain promises have been made concerning the future.

I wouldn't have a problem with Smart at this point. He has seen first hand what it takes.

I know we prefer head coaches since DuBose, but I'm willing to give him a shot. Especially--ESPECIALLY--if Saban has input, and recommends him.

This is the correct answer. I hope we would empty the bank to get him too.

I love Kirby, but Alabama is not the ideal spot to be at for on the job training. Plus you have the added pressure of following a legend. Jimbo has already done that at FSU.

And he has underperformed so far, especially considering the talent he has had. Yeah, he might have struck gold with Winston, but he kind of lucked out with him.

Is he not "job training" right now? We are going to take lumps when Saban leaves either way, I woud rather take those lumps with Kirby than Jimbo.
