The University of Alabama reported $143.4 million in athletic revenue during 2012-13, up 16 percent from a year earlier. It's Alabama largest revenue increase in three years.

In its annual Equity in Athletics Data Analysis report filed this month to the U.S. Department of Education, Alabama listed a surplus of $21.1 million when not factoring in $13.1 million from debt-service payments. EADA does not require debt service to be reported.

Alabama's revenue has increased by 43 percent since 2009, when it won the first of three football national championships under Nick Saban. Revenue is up 112 percent since 2006, Alabama's last year with Mike Shula as coach. Alabama has since expanded its football stadium and reaped the benefits of new SEC television deals.

I don't want to tard up another thread but one of our brethren dropped this doozy which lead me to drop my original remark.

So if I am reading this right, out of 143.4 million the University only had a positive of 21.1 million. Where the heck does the rest of the 122.3 million go. I know our athletic budget is big but God that is ridiculous that 122 million is spent in one year. I would be interested in knowing how they spent it. Also what exactly is debt-service payments?

It also would be interesting to know how far this ranks from Texas considering the amount of money that program takes in. I think this would obviously be 2nd on the list.

I would think paying off debt would include paying for stadium expansions and general upgrading of facilities.

Here is some of it from the article

quote:

n 2012-13, Alabama listed spending $18.5 million on coaches' salaries and $11.1 million on athletically related student aid

I am assuming a lot of money went to upgrading the football facility and aren't we basically rebuilding the baseball field?

I remember a couple years ago they were around $160 million

Thanks read the article after posting.
It looks like texas will still be 1st in revenue followed by Ohio St who would likely just barely beat us as they did about 141 million last year.

I would have thought the stadium upgrade was already paid for. I am hoping we get another upgrade and enclose those separated sections.

BTW how would you be able to do that?

The next major improvement I would like to see would be putting an overhang over the end zone upper decks shielding people from the sun for a bit.

The guy who posted that came into a thread where we were having a civil discussion about attendence and he proceeded to lay one of the largest turds of a post I have ever seen. Now I don't want to touch that thread with a 10 foot pole.

Debt servicing is bond payments for various expansions and capital improvements. As far as only having 21 million left for profit, dont think much of it, P&L statements should be read diffrently

So, according to that, we could match Texas dollar for dollar to keep Saban.

I'm not the least bit bothered by the surplus. That's the reason you make money, to spend it on making Bama the best in the nation. Recent projects have included stadium expansion... renovating the Rhoads Stadium (softball), Gymnastics's practice gym (back to back champions), basically building a new baseball stadium, the new state-of-the-art weight rooms next to the Mal Moore Center, Media hub in Bryant Denny which is tricked out with all the cool video toys and the Sarah Patterson Champions Plaza..... we've had a lot to spend on and we're going to be better because of it.

The only thing I see happening is overhauls to the concourses.

It wasn't structurally possible with the setup. And it certainly can't be done now.
