SEC on CBS Ratings in 2013

Game Rating
Alabama-Texas A&M 8.6
Florida-Tennessee 2.8
Georgia-LSU 4.6
Georgia-Tennessee 3.5
Florida-LSU 3.4 *

* Florida-LSU is an overnight metered market rating.

quote:

CBS, which has the first pick of SEC games, cited several factors for its selection choices: national rankings, standings, star power, injuries, rivalries, tradition, and past ratings.

Airing Missouri-South Carolina next week would have carried a risk CBS usually doesn't take. Forty-seven of the past 50 SEC regular-season games on CBS involved at least one of the SEC's traditional powers (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee).

The exceptions over the past four years: Missouri-South Carolina in 2012 (2.5 rating), South Carolina-Arkansas in 2012 (1.8 rating), and Mississippi State-Arkansas in 2011 (1.9 rating). Those rank among CBS' lowest-rated SEC games over that period.

Missouri was on CBS twice last year, drawing a 2.1 in its 32-point loss to Alabama and a 2.5 in its 21-point loss to South Carolina. The Missouri ratings were discussed "no more than any other factor we talked about," Weinberg said. "Obviously a closer game is on some level a game that has more appeal just because there's more drama than a blowout."

The CBS game "hype" has not lived up to the billing for me personally. I looked forward to that when moving to the SEC but the announcers suck and the amount the games are slowed down because of breaks is ridiculous.

I like the ESPN games at 6pm or later. Night games are waaay better. Sucks for Mizzou they get another 11am game.

We embrace the underdog role that no one respects.

You would think CBS would be a little bit smarter than that. Last year we were having a bad season so of course the ratings would be down. This year at 6-0 more people would be interested. We had good ratings in big games in the Big 12.

that's a nice mid-season award.....but UF will finish with the crown once again with 4.....vs tenn, @lsu, vs uga, @scar (scar hasn't been decided yet but it's usually CBS)

You can say that again.

Saturday's LSU game went into the 4th quarter before we had our first change of possession without a tv timeout.

Pretty sure this game was at noon and not 3:30.

And if Franklin was going to play in the game against Cocky I bet CBS would've picked it up

In the end, Alabama brings the ratings. Want high viewing numbers? Put the Crimson Tide on.

I'm curious how ESPN will be handling the whole SEC Network thing (choosing air times, divvying up the games by sub-network when they're on simultaneously, etc.) I was under the impression that a huge reason Missouri and TAMU were brought it was eyeballs, i.e. T.V. markets, so you'd think they'd be getting a lot of love when competing for attention with the ratings standard-bearers like Bama and LSU. Now that the novelty has worn off -- iirc, last season did give a lot of attention to the new kids on the block -- it becomes a serious question of allotting a due amount of attention and time to every team. Obviously programs like Vandy and UK aren't going to get as much love as Florida and Georgia, but neither are particularly large football fanbases either. The same can't be said for TAMU or, to a lesser extent, MU.

The TV timeouts for CBS games are ridiculous. It's as if CBS is pissed off every year that they aren't allowed to show many commercials during the Master's broadcast, so they make up for it during SEC football games.

Couldn't agree with you more. I HATE when LSU plays on CBS.

really, have you ever read anywhere where the announcers, on any network, do not suck. it is so predictable; espn guys suck, cbs guys suck, abc guys suck, etc, etc

but i most definately agree that cbs takes way too many breaks and it really is annoying as hell.
i can turn the announcers off but they need to do something about the length of games due to the insane number of commercials.
