This is what Brent Hubbs just posted regarding the Band vs. Football situation. Sousa is delusional and needs to be fired NOW. He doesn't even attend the weekly meetings, what a bitch.

quote:

After reading the Beacon article this morning and talking to more people this morning. There are a couple
of things I wanted to pass along and hopefully the Chancellor will get this situation handled internally.

First of all, there's been a lot discussion about the band losing playing time. Here are numbers from
three games based on information provided to Volquest by game operations.

The Akron game in 2012, the band had 36:40 of playing time for the game. The Georgia game last week, the band had just over 56 minutes of playing time. In the second had they had 40:30 of time and that doesn't include overtime. Part of the
reason for a difference in 20 minutes total time from Akron and Georgia is that CBS commercial breaks are 2:30 seconds long which is longer than ESPN breaks.

In Western Kentucky 2013, the band had 44:40 of playing time for the game. So according to game operations band playing time hasn't been reduced.

Also in the article it's was stated that the athletic department wouldn't hear the bands complaints and wouldn't return emails. Each week of a home game, there is a game operations meeting which includes all facets of the stadium from P.A.
to jumbotron to all areas of game production. Included in that meeting is the band. Dr. Sousa has elected to never attend one of those meetings. Often times, Dr. Sousa sends an assistant to the meeting where concerns are discussed and the rundown script is produced. But the band doesn't always chose to attend.

And finally, I'm trying to get a game copy to see when Georgia was whooping it up at the end of their pre-game warm up to see if the band was still in the stands capable of playing Rocky Top or if they were on the sidelines scattered about getting ready to march onto the field to start their pre-game routine.

Now, it's unfortunate that the band members are being thrust in the middle of this. They are a big part of the Neyland Stadium experience. They have a passion for what they do and they work hard at what they do.

I'm still not sure they are being given complete information and they are being thrown into something publicly that makes it look like them vs. football which is unfair to them.

It's going to be interesting to see how Chancellor Cheek and his office handle this situation moving forward to try and defuse it.

I'm confused. The band is bitching about someone (not sure who that would be) not letting them play enough?
