What to do about Clowney?

He was a real shithead in the UCF postgame press conference last week blaming everybody on the defense, making excuses for himself and then at the last second pulls himself out of the UK game because of "bruised ribs".

If Clowney is saving himself for the draft then he needs to say so and leave the team instead of pulling these bitch moves and potentially causing issues in the locker room. I mean Connor Shaw should call him out for being the biggest bitch in the world since Shaw played through a broken shoulder and a foot that needed surgery last year.

I'm tired of the bull shite excuses that pop up week to week. If I were Spurrier I'd tell him to pack his arse up and head to whatever facility he planned on training at because hes clearly not interested in the team and our defense sucks just as much when hes in.

Spurrier needs to sit down with him and have Clowney decide now if he wants to play for his teammates/university or do the same bull shite he's been doing and wait for the draft. Like you said Shaw's played through much worse plus you'll never be 100% in the NFL regardless.

Holbrook had to deal with a situation much like this with Erik Payne who was ultimately removed from the team mid-season.

I'm still at the Cockaboose as I type this. We've had everybody and their brother through here since the coaches get-together let-out.

Heard a bunch of different reasons for everything that's been going on. There are some seriously frustrated people around here right now.

I hope we get it together before we travel this week or Arkansas will beat us.

It's one or two players and a lack of on field leadership.

The plan for Clowney is simple, treat him like anyone else. If he can physically play, put him in the game. If he's not doing what the coaches need him to do while playing, put him on the bench and put the next guy in.

It doesn't need to be any more complicated than that. If people everywhere now calling out his ability/effort and the bench can't motivate him, then it is what it is and we move forward with the guys we have.

If this was Chaz Sutton this would be a non issue.

I'd rather a guy pull himself out the game if he didn't think he could give it his all and let someone else play. We didn't need him yesterday, and if anything I was glad he didn't play just so he could rest for this 3 game away stretch.

I really don't get why Carolina fans aren't smart enough to realize publicly calling him out is not good for us in any way. like CayceCock taking it to the rant just so he could be first to "break the news". You really think they didn't already know bro? They already had threads on it in the UGA board. If he wants to mail it in then let him do so quietly. But acting like this does not help us at all. You really think other high profile recruits don't read these boards. You think Daboo won't use this as cannon fodder. I haven't looked but I'm sure there are 10 threads on Tigerincest.net regarding our epic meltdown and how .... we are.

No I don't think either of those.

This right here is a really dumb sentiment. Why would you allow someone on your team to not give 100% effort? I don't care who it is, if they're not giving it their all I don't want them on the field, and I'd rather them leave the team sooner than later.

I don't think Clowney's on field production is worth the potential problems he'll cause if his attitude of putting himself above the team and only worrying about his NFL career rub off on other in the locker room.

Tell us more about how many coaches you've been recruited by. Please offer us more insight on how you'd run your team and handle present as well as future #1 prospects. Were all ears on what "you'd" want on the field. Hold on Saban's on the phone he's got a few questions. No one said put him on the field Lombardy, you leave him on the bench and you move on with your head up. But with all that respect you garner you'd be above that right, Coach?

Lol, the beauty of the inter webs, everyone is a hall of fame coach and everyone else is stupid. So hilarious it is, you never know who your'e talking to on these boards.

So a guy that's playing with bone spurs every week is putting himself above the team? Clowney came out last week and said the d-line has to play better and this was Kelcy and JT's best game so far this year so let's blame JD for that too while we're at it. If he felt he was unable to go he shouldn't have played that was best for him and for the team. It baffles me that someone the comes out and play every week through double and sometimes triple teams and gives great effort can miss one game and become a villain.

more, it would've been posted on the rant anyway regardless. Rather get it out of the way last night and not have to deal with it this afternoon.

re: What to do about Clowney?

It wasn't that he missed the game but that he waited until the last second to pull himself out. If he had said Thursday he might not play then I think there wouldn't be so much backlash against him.

Its also more glaring since Clowney pulling himself out at the last second is juxtaposed with Shaw playing through yet another injury.

And I'd like to know what the thinking was behind Clowney not getting his bone spurs fixed over the offseason

I'll post early and often just for you Bubbles.

By the way Coach

Head trainer Clint Haggard clarified Clowney's injury as a strained muscle around the rib cage. He is day to day with practice and questionable for Arkansas at this point. The complete article describing Clowney's injury and situation is on GCC.

Please tell us more about how you'd kick him off the team. Let me guess you'd kick the trainer off the team as well? Can I come over to see your wall of NCAA trophies coach?

He could take a painkiller and quit bitching about it I'm sure. Players have played through much worse than a strained muscle before.

And you have to know that its not just this injury but the pattern of excuses that have popped up after every game this year. This was just the final straw and the timing is really the issue. Hes obviously cleared to play by the medical staff or else he wouldn't have put pads on and gone through warmups.

Feel free to continue to apologize for Clonwey, but I can't do it anymore.

Also, I've never claimed to be a coach but I'm just giving my opinion. If thats an issue for you then go find the message boards that the coaches post on. Or better yet go over to Cockytalk, you'd fit right in with all the terrible posters over there

I think Spurrier will handle this correctly and still keep the team together. UGA is definitely vulnerable now, especially against Florida and possibly Mizzou. The SEC-E is far from done, so I hope the team (and Clowney) can stay motivated so that we can have another great year.

I think that the cheap shot UNC put on him late in the game has had an effect on him mentally. The only way he is not a top-5 pick is if he tears and ACL or has some other serious injury. Not saying he is scared, but I definitely think that has mentally impacted him.

That's possible.. but what do you think SOS benching him will do to him mentally when his draft stock falls to late round? The amount of concern for his work ethic grows and some GM's will absolutely pass on him for it.

I think you are absolutely right. Something needs to happen to get his head right. The kid has all the talent and tools in the world, and everyone knows that. However, his work ethic and desire has dropped so much this year that it will most definitely effect his status. Maybe some of the draft expert talking heads will start questioning it and that will motivate him. I don't know... one way or the other, we need everyone to be on the same page for the remainder of the season.

I don't see Clowney falling out of the top 5 even if he tears an ACL. Bradford was still the number 1 pick after injury his right shoulder and the Rams had to break the bank to sign him.

With the rookie wage scale its making it harder for Clowney to fall down the draft board because the risk is lowered and his potential is so high

A Gamecock fan wouldn't post retarded tripe like this. If you watch some other team's college FB games instead of USC's games, why don't you go start topics of discussions about those somewhere else?

Clowney gave what was perceived to be a sub-standard effort versus UNC, and got roasted over it by the national media. In the very first f ucking game. Only an idiot that knows nothing of what he's talking about could perceive of Clowney mailing it in - in his final season of college FB - "quietly".....
