Just based on the stats, I'd have to go Archie.
IDK though, Archie never kicked a field goal, right?
Could you post the stats of Spurrier's Heismans year? TIA.

Good debate, based off of the old films I have seen they were both awesome, but I like Archie and the way he played
Stats seem to favor SOS though

I mean from a pure stats prospective I'd have to go with Archie. I mean 17 more TD's is a pretty big margin. Not to mention the fact that Archie played with a cast there for a significant amount of time.

Based off the Numbers Spurrier. The only big difference is rushing TDs. Which Spurrier may have had a RB they used to pound in the TDs instead of him having to do it. If he could run for half the yards its likely he could have gotten at least half the TDs too. Spurrier was more accurate, had more TD passes, and less INTs.

Both were before my time, but I'd never even heard of Spurrier until he began coaching Florida. Might have something to do with growing up closer to Mississippi, though.

I saw 'em both play several times. Archie Manning was great -- and got our (LSU) respect in spite of his playing for Ole Miss.

I hear many Bama fans who watched him live say the same thing. Archie was one of the greats who never had the supporting cast to be legendary.

This is the biggest factor, I think.
It seems to be a pervading issue in OM football. We will have a standout player at each position throughout the years, but they never quite all line up.
The one year we had an outstanding all-around team (2008), we had a shite HC who let the talent of the team make him look good.
On topic, I honestly don't know. I've never seen any footage of Spurrier and I'm obviously prone to bias.
I like Spurrier as a coach, though. A lot.

You worded this correctly.
On the field, they absolutely look similar. Like greased pigs out there.

I don't know, I didn't see them play because I am not old as crap.

Spurrier. Better Comp%, more yards, more TD's, fewer INT's, higher rating, and won Heisman.

Spurrier had significantly fewer TD's and the Heisman is irrelevant.

This. Archie would have been a lock his senior year had he not broken his arm.

Did Archie kick a field goal?
I have no idea, never saw either of them play.
