I actually like the idea. I'm not into wood smithing but gotta believe a decent number could be made. 1k a pop could put a serious dent in the restoration cost.

Would there be any poison remaining in the wood?

That would be pretty cool but no way I'm paying anything near $1000 for it.

re: Toomer Oak Duck Calls

I'm no Auburn grad, but I would assume that using the trees to make some kind of wooden chandeliers for the main academic building or something along those lines would be a better use of the dead tree.

Or maybe they could have a sculptor use the dead trees to carve X amount of eagles and have them placed in prominent places around campus.

The Memorial Student Center at A&M is probably the most used building on campus by students during the week, and is easily the most visited on Football Saturdays by visitors and Former Students. Inside the MSC there are several very large wooden carvings that were done by a professor in the architecture department. Together, the sculptures tell the history of A&M.

All three of those options popped in my head within about 3 minutes......but I guess if Auburn University has thrown all of its effort in thinking about creative ways a historic piece of Auburn history could be preserved.....duck calls are also an option.

Why is that funny? Tamu has a panel of wood on the wall earning nothing while Auburn is planning on making a grand off of a call that is made from a piece of wood that is about 7 inches long and 1.5 inches square. If they wanted the could make thousands if them.

I think Auburn wins.

I'm not sure many would consider taking one of the most iconic parts of Auburn and selling $1 million of duck calls winning...hence the reason why this thread was started.

I get the draw of creating revenue. But just feels like in 20-30 years, people would look back and say...."damn, did we really use toomers tree to sell duck calls?"

Pretty meaningful part of Auburns history not to keep it on campus in some way. Just my opinion though.

I get your point and the money angle as well. Aggie's have their deal. Maybe something like the Clemson rock except the auby stump . Seriously a part of it needs to go towards a football related tradition, but I like the fans being able to have a piece of history in some form as well.

The memorial union is only cool to y'all. I respect what it represents but no one else really has any reverence for it

I highly doubt the entire damn wood mass is being divvied up to make duck calls. That being said, it is Auburn, and Auburn loves to make money off of its alumni. I can only imagine portions of the tree will be saved and reused in some slightly more noble fashion on campus.

And to think, Updyke was charged with "desecrating a venerable object." That so called "venerable object" used to get rolled with toilet paper several times a year and is now being made into duck calls. Must not be so venerable after all.

I think it's funny that some of you think that ALL of the wood is going to be used for duck calls

Could make butt plugs out of them, "Toomer's Woodies". Dip them in certified 100% Cammy Cam juice. Would be a big seller with the Auburn fan base.

Why not just make toilet paper out of them. I'm sure a lot of sec fans would buy it.

JK I do like the ideal of the eagle, you could put them above the entrances of the stadium.
