That is a stupid formula. I guess it's better than some fat journalist making it up as he goes though.

These people must not know the same Tennessee, Auburn and Arkansas fans that I do.

Michigan is far bigger in population and has a bigger stadium than anyone in the SEC. Of course they're going to come out on top.

Also, Alabama had a very, VERY weak home slate last year. Texas A&M was the only big time game, and before the actual game, no one even thought it was a big time game.

Tennessee and Auburn way too low. they think about college football 24/7/365 days a year.

so Iowa, USC at left coast, Oregon, Michigan State has more hardcore fans than Tennesee and Auburn?

I think due to population sizes in the areas being different that this is a very flawed way of calculating this

They should divide by the state's population. That would be way more accurate.

I am guessing UK basketball is well above most of the football schools not in the SEC on that list. Coach Cal has over a million twitter followers and BBN is know for a level of loyalty only a Bama fan can appreciate.

When I think hardcore, I think Travel.

And a lot of those schools don't travel well.

Lame list.

Decent list.

Tennessee and Auburn are lower on the list due to the methodology and their ticket sales in the past 2 years.

Some might argue that a half-filled stadium shows that the fans aren't that hardcore. But, most who pay close attention to SEC football would probably agree that, considering the seasons Auburn and Tennessee had last year, the fact that there were even that many fans in attendance is a testament to those teams' fans.

Are their fans psychic?

How do they know that they will lose all of those games... even early in the season.

They don't.

It's easy to say after the fact that they sucked. But pre-season and early in the season, they were still gung ho and still having issues with empty seats.

And what explains Florida's travel woes?

Flawed because of population and other schools in the vicinity

IE Texas has more people than Louisiana
BUT Texas has
1. A&M
2. UT
3. Baylor
4. Tech
5. TCU

as big conf schools

and tons of smaller conference schools to watch

where as Louisiana has
1. LSU
2. LTech

so in reality, smaller area has an advantage over larger
