Why is Big10 THAT much of a better fit for Mizzou?

I see a lot of comments that say Mizzou is much better suited for the Big10. Hardly ever is there any substance behind this strong opinion. I hear they're a bad fit geographically and culturally, but that stuff is never seriously expanded on.

I'd just like to hear some of the reasons why we're a drastically better fit in the Big10.

I'll just throw out some baseline stuff.

MU's style of play does not fit Big10. If you say it doesn't fit SEC either, great, but then it's a wash, it's not an edge to Big10.

MU borders 4 Big10 teams while bordering 4 SEC teams.

The truth is, MU is versatile. Just like the guy who can talk to a working class hoosier or a wealthy yuppie.. MU can fit in the Big10, Big12, and SEC.

I think Mizzou is perfect for the SEC. They've never been winners, and competing against the SEC only further cements that fact.

Umm, since 07 we've been one of the winningest football programs in the country. And have a very respectable basketball program. An elite softball team, elite wrastling, and an overall athletic dept that is far above the average in the country.

Your overall athletic program is probably only above Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. 10th best in the SEC isn't "far above the average", imo. It is pretty average.

Flamer gonna flame.

Do you know how many D1 programs are out there?

We have a football program that is definitely a top 35 program and basketball is a top 20 program. That combo alone puts the athletic dept on the upper half of average.

Nice flame.

53 wins over 6 years ain't too bad. Especially when one of those was a 5 win year plagued with monumental injuries.

Go back another year and you've got 61 wins over 7 years. Again not bad. And certainly better than most programs.

Exactly.

I think Mizzou gets so much grief for several reasons:

1) Geography. But you're closer to many SEC teams than A&M is, so it can't only be that unless the locals all really suck at geography... which is entirely possible.

2) Civil War? Maybe.

3) If I had to pick a one-and-only reason it would be the unfortunate "old man football" comment from last year. That understandably hit a few nerves. Really dumb thing to say, and I doubt anybody here forgets it for a while. Karma at its finest. It will take a good football season to make them forget.

8-4 is a fine season in Columbia. In Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, and Gainesville its forgettable.

It looks like Missouri finishes around 40-45 in the Directors Cup standings.

8 wins a year is average for most SEC teams, below average for some.

If we had a 8-4 season I would flip shite.

However, I'm glad Mizzou is here. It'll just take time to catch up. Ask Arkansas

Yeah that is true about karma and the old man comment. It really ignited a lot of hate, and for good reason.

This is a flame zone, so I get why people say some things. But I also think there is a great deal of ignorance. We really would fit in the Big10, so I see why ppl say it.. but they don't also think about us fitting in the SEC.

Most ppl aren't familiar with the Ozark culture, which is an SEC fit (especially bc it links us to AR).

Civil War perception is another big one. It amazes me that so many people that apparently have pride for the south don't know much ab the history of it all. But I also can see why ppl flame us as yankees.

And we're new to a lot of these ppl. We've never been great, but we've been a solid program at times. I think a lot of people just know us from last years debacle.
