Obvious hypothetical, but it basically comes down to two games...

1. Would LSU have beaten Oklahoma State in the 2011 BCSCG?

2. Would LSU have beeaten Georgia in the 2012 SECCG?

(in all likelihood LSU - along with about 6 other SEC teams - would have beaten Notre Dame in the 2012 BCSCG)

quote:

LINK

When Saban returned to college football from his ill-fated NFL foray by accepting the Alabama job, he re-entered the LSU hemisphere not as the man who was instrumental in building the Tigers' most consistent on-field success in school history, but as arguably the only man who could diminish it.

And diminish it he has.

It might well be the case that two losses against Saban's Alabama teams are all that prevents the Tigers, not the Tide, from being back-to-back national champs. There was the 21-0 BCS national title game debacle in 2012. And then there was last year’s loss to Alabama in a game that, if LSU had won, would have propelled the Tigers into the SEC championship game, a de facto BCS semifinal.

The only thing that has been able to slow down the program Saban built is Saban coaching at the one SEC West school that has the resources to exceed an LSU program clicking on all cylinders.

Damn Bama!&&@! Why do yall have to be so frickin good??

You're discounting Georgia too much last year. I think they beat you and then beat ND.

You get 1 of 2.

Also...2011...LSU 42 OSU 14

I think Georgia wins last year.

LSU was clearly the 2nd best in 2011, though. Head and shoulders over OSU.

I agree. I think we would have beat OklSt and won the BCS title in 2011, but I think Georgia would have beaten us in 2012...Georgia vs Notre Dame title game.

I think LSU would've lost to UGA last year. Don't think the LSU offense would've kept up with UGA's.

UGA played over their head against Bama. Even Tennessee put up 44 points on UGA and lost at the last minute. UGA was blown out by SC.

BCS era National Champions might lose 1 close game, but you never see them getting arse raped like UGA vs SC.

You're not giving UGA enough credit.

Easily.

Honestly, I don't think so. UGA showed up to play in a big game for once and I don't think LSU would have been able to score enough.

We don't beat UGA last year. Granted I think LSU didn't play up to potential after the Bama game. UGA was no doubt the better team at the end of last year.

I just don't think LSU was championship material in 2012. Yeah we were a drive away from beating Bama, but we were also a drive away from losing to Ole Miss. We squeaked by two TERRIBLE teams in Auburn and Arkansas. Hell we even struggled with Towson.

We were very inconsistent last year, especially away from Tiger Stadium. I have to think that if we had gone to Atlanta Georgia would have won in a revenge match. Remember, they were a play away from beating Bama, and they were overall more consistent than LSU last year, minus one terrible game against South Carolina.
