I'm waiting for PInkel to earn his salary....

Keep in mind though that some of these might de-commit if Kentucky doesn't have a good season. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

This year may be his last chance. And I agree theres a very good chance they lose some of these. Tennessee has already lost one of theirs. Just really impressed with the energy Stoops has infused there without even having his team step on the field.

Agreed. He's done a fantastic job of bringing a level of excitement and positive thinking they haven't seen in a long time, if ever. How they have to continue to hold onto their recruits. And of course, have results on the field. Should be interesting to watch.

So I take it that you dont think the raises were deserved or that he has earned the job for life.....

We've had this discussion, I believe. No. No, I don't believe any such thing. Cost of living raises? Sure. Performance based raises? Not too much based on last year. And no, no job is earned for life. This is not a tenured professorship, it's a coaching job.

I applaud him for running a pretty clean program, having the emphasis he does on academics and graduation, community involvement, that kind of stuff. But last year, we didn't win. People don't buy tickets to see teams lose, especially with the "we do what we do and it works" attitude. Empirical evidence would suggest otherwise.

I believe PInkel is a good coach, and last year was a perfect storm of injuries for us. But for what he's being paid, my expectations are higher for recruiting and the on-field results. HOpe he turns it around this year.

Based on evidence I wouldnt say good. I would say average. In a lesser league hes a good coach. But the guy has never won a conference title. His most successful seasons had him finishing second in the conference. Take out those two years and it would be easy to call him a bad coach.

Bad might be too strong of a word. I don't think he's ever been bad. But the problem is we want to compete in the best league in the nation and to win that you can't have good or average.

PInkel has built a real program at Mizzou, and I think everyone is grateful for that. Just looking for more now.

In my opinion Kentucky is probably the toughest SEC school to recruit to right now. If they can do it there then anyone can do it. Even if they drop to the 10-15 range its pretty damn impressive

re: Kentucky Football #1 recruiting class

The only thing I'd say about UK and their recruiting is that they seem to have gone about it smart. They have the proximity to Ohio, Ohio has a ton of talent and UK has hit Ohio hard. They have like 8 recruits from Ohio, took a couple of the top kids in state, filled in with a couple from GA, FL and TX. They had a plan and went stayed true to it. I think if they stay true to that model in the future, they'll be fine. Like I said, Ohio has tons of talent.

I think Missouri is trying with more offers to kids on the east side of the river but they have neglected that area for so long and with a staff and program in flux, we're just not getting the kids from Illinois like UK is getting the kids from Ohio.

Why do you think Kentucky is the toughest school to recruit? Just curious. I'd think it's tough there, Tennessee, Miss State, Arkansas, Mizzou...

I wouldn't think UT would be difficult. They have tradition and border 7 other SEC states plus North Carolina.

Such a small home base of talent, very little winning tradition, and being pretty far behind in facilities. You could make a case for Vandy or State I think but Vandy has a good string of recent seasons and Nashville. State has some solid MS talent in their backyard.

I think y'all have much more to work with recruiting wise than they do, and the facilities improvements I've seen proposed will only help

Reedus: this is true about Ohio. I really doubted they would be able to take from OSU and Michigan which they've been able to do. I would think they are selling the SEC angle hard. Once you stabilize, whether that be with Pinkel or a new coach, I think you could have similar success in the Big 10 areas with the same angle

He is a good coach. His record speaks for itself. He's just a shitty recruiter.

Good points. It will be interesting to see if UK maintains what they've been able to do in Ohio or if it's been the result of a HC change.

Actually it's your school that is the toughest to recruit to.

UK is already a major brand bc of basketball. Stoops can come in sell to a class of kids that they'll put UK football in that same echelon. And besides, you wear maroon.

I believe Shane is actually an A&M fan, probably showing CWS support for MSU. I don't believe A&M has any problem recruiting.

re: Kentucky Football #1 recruiting class

I'm not a State fan, but I think the solid base of talent MS has gives them an edge over Kentucky. You can certainly make an argument for both as I said above. I don't think the basketball angle really helps honestly. There are a lot of traditional basketball powers with a shitty football history like Kentucky (Indiana, your friends in Kansas, Duke amongst others) that have consistently struggled to bring decent football talent to campus and never capitalized on that basketball success to recruit football talent

I think we can agree that State and Kentucky are probably the two toughest recruiting jobs in the SEC. And maroon hasn't hurt my real favorite team's recruiting efforts in the past few years

We have no friends in that place. And, we don't respect them enough to capitalize the k.
