Wow, we didn't get our moneys worth in Athens... Poor Coaching or what???

If we’re limiting our evaluations to just terrestrial beings (which would exclude J.J. Watt), it would be reasonable to argue that Geno Atkins, the Bengals’ 25-year-old, force-of-nature defensive tackle, was the best defensive player in the NFL a season ago. His 12.5 sacks were tied for 15th most in a single season by a defensive tackle in NFL history, according to Pro-Football-Reference, but sack totals do very little to illustrate just how dominant Atkins was. His 62 total hits and hurries (as tallied by Pro Football Focus) were 13 more than the next best defensive tackle (Ndamukong Suh), and his 86 total pressures were the third most of any defensive player in the league. Let’s note this again — he’s a defensive tackle.

Geno Atkins 2012 highlights...

At 6-foot, Atkins is one of the strongest players in the entire league, a scary-powerful bundle of leverage who can get under just about every interior lineman in football. That’d be fine if he also weren't a knifing run stopper who’s also a nightmare as a speed rusher against woefully outgunned guards. If there’s anything better in that video than the destruction of Willie Colon, it’s watching Atkins terrorize poor Eli Manning. It’s to the point that I almost, almost feel bad. Ya know what? Just watch the whole video. Preferably twice. Of all the things to be excited about in Cincy, this guy tops the list, and when it comes to defensive players not named Watt or Miller, there’s no one I’m looking forward to watching more this fall.

Where are all those articles that came out back when it was popular to not like Richt that quoted scouts and coaches who said UGA players had a tendency to be under-coached? I know i've heard as much with my person experiences with guys in the profession but I remember articles too. I've never seen our program as a molder of players so I usually just hope the guys we get are already really damn good right out of the box, no assembly required.

Hopefully Wilson shows he's more than an inner-city ambassador

I'm going with the obvious...

Performance enhancers... We need to start pumping our kids full of them like Alabama. Watching their trench players and RB's dominate for a full football game is insane.

Geno did play with a few other good players. during his time in Athens, Jeff Owens was billed as top dawg and with good reason, he had a heckuva soph. season. the ACL tear against GSU his jr yr hurt him a lot, got really fat. also Kade Weston, who i believe was a NE draft pick was there as well.

He did produce at UGA this is from wiki

As of September 29, despite being a backup, Atkins was fourth in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) with six tackles for losses along with a sack.[5] On October 6, Atkins was named the starter over Weston[6] and in only his second game led the team in tackles against Vanderbilt.[7] He became the first defensive tackle to lead the team in tackles in a game since Jason Ferguson did it in 1995 and the first defensive lineman since David Pollack in 2003.[8] Following a game against Kentucky in which he had five tackles, he was named SEC defensive player of the week for the week of November 17.[1][9] Following, his sophomore season Atkins was named First-team All-SEC

He has 7.5 sacks as a soph and 10.5 tfl as a sr

Oh yea and had WilMart as a DC lol

I don't know about you guys but this gives me hope for this year. Geno is a small DT who can obviously get after it. Now just this past spring we have a small NG who apparently has been getting after it enough to gain the starting roll. I was nervous before this about Thorton leading up the middle but if he can penetrate like Geno is doing then WOW. Plus given his size he probably feels he has alot to prove. This is all pluses in my book.

Not to mention he should be able to get under the center and apply pressure calapsing the pocket.
