so someone at one of my properties died today

I have construction crews on site at one of my larger malls due to us bringing in a large chain retailer. When these things happen there are often accidents during construction. However, Police (I use them for security) found a guy laying on the pavement next to his SUV today. HVAC sub worker. Spoon and needle close by. Overdosed. My employee there saw him, employees of some retailers saw him, and without a doubt customers or patients. and now of course yours truly is getting bombarded by local media due to rumors flying that are false.

you people are robbing me blind. I just dropped 70k last week Update. The guy actually was revived on the way to the ER.

All that easy legit access to meth ingredients attract them. It's a good cover business. Still not as good as tenting houses.

I've seen drug use rampant in the construction industry, employers hire cheap laborers who can perform the skill required (carpenters, welders, fab guys, etc.) at a much cheaper rate than what these guys could use their skills for if they were clean working in a factory, for example. They "turn the blind eye" by claiming not to know, do not drug test, etc.
Usually you don't see this with HVAC guys, as most have to go through a trade school to get into the field, same with electricians, plumbers who perform apprenticeships.
But, when jobs are awarded to the lowest bidder, the guy submitting the bid is going to want the cheapest labor force so his bottom line and earning potential isn't affected...

I don't award bids to lowest bidder at this property. I use the same providers exclusively. Definitely not the lowest in town but this property is not exactly C or B class. My largest tenant there is nearly 500,000 sf of medical offices occupied by a medical center of a certain SEC school....
However, that definitely can hold to be true. I'm not sure who this person was or his background. As of now all I know is I'm glad he didn't pass and he is no longer allowed on my property.
ETA If you're confused by the type of property it's a large retail/medical office mix use.

That sucks.
If it makes you feel any better, I had a meth head try to get a job with me yesterday. I knew as soon as I saw her she was high as a kite at 8 in the morning.

Not sure what you are getting for your leases, but I am very impressed. I'm merely a partner in 160k sq ft of medical office space, and it is plenty valuable. 500k=

OSHA will still crawl all over that site. Good luck, sorry for that guy, his family and friends. Sad.

And medical office/facility use will rise, significantly. Currently working with 2 of the 3 hospital providers in NWA.
