Having this discussion on another board...

Should Confederate soldiers be honored on Memorial Day?

Were they not American brothers? However the southern states were given a Holiday of their choosing to celebrate this. In Texas it's January 19th which occasionally falls on the 3rd Monday of January, which happens to be MLK day lmao.

No. The Confederate States seceded from the United States.

LINK

Here is the link listing the holidays. Memorial Day apparently is a spawn off the Confederate memorial day.

You should reevaluate yourself ... really I shouldn't celebrate my great, great, great grandfather that fought in the Civil War and died in Shiloh. Which he fought because he believed in states rights, against northern oppressors and that's what he thought was right, BY THE WAY NO ONE IN MY frickING FAMILY EVER OWNED SLAVES DON'T GIVE ME THAT bullshite and say he fought to keep slavery. I know what he fought for because we still have his journal that has been passed down through our family.

This is the same as saying if we had never won the revolution we should never honor those men that served and died for our sakes ...

Cat I like you, REALLY I DO ... but please keep your bitchy I'm not southern, but I'm better, forget all southern history and act like it never happened rhetoric to a minimum please ... kthxbye

Is Memorial Day a United States holiday or a Confederate States holiday?
