Arkansas gets a ton of recruits from the states of Arkansas and Texas. While Texas recruits tend to be more highly rated, the seem to pan out far less often than Arkansas recruits do.

Off the top of my head, here are some of our best players from each state in recent years (roughly the last 10 years):

Darren McFadden - Arkansas
Peyton Hillis - Arkansas
Joe Adams - Arkansas
Greg Childs - Arkansas
Jarius Wright - Arkansas
Jake Bequette - Arkansas
Jamaal Anderson - Arkansas
Marcus Harrison - Arkansas
Jerry Franklin - Arkansas
Tyler Wilson - Arkansas
Shawn Andrews - Arkansas
Marcus Monk - Arkansas
Matt Jones - Arkansas
Jonathan Luigs - Arkansas
Cedric Cobbs - Arkansas

Knile Davis - Texas
Tony Ugoh - Texas
Chris Houston - Texas
Caleb Miller - Texas

I'm putting Texarkana players in a separate category:
Cobi Hamilton - Texas
Dennis Johnson - Arkansas
Ryan Mallett - (finished high school in Texas, but from Arkansas)

Again, this is just off the top of my head, but it seems like we've had way more success with Arkansas recruits than Texas recruits.

Who am I missing? Is Texas overrated or is Arkansas underrated?

I think our high school system makes our players perhaps more difficult to rate. Its easier for someone to fly under the radar here than it is in most of TX. But when I see lists like that it just drives home the importance of locking down our in-state talent first.

On average we are getting the cream of the crop from Arkansas but middle of the pack players from Texas. There are some exceptions like Knile and we all saw what he could do when healthy. Not sure that you can evenly compare the groups if you only look at the ones Arkansas lands.

Yea, but I would say in general middle of the pack Texas recruits are rated about the same as the top Arkansas recruits.

They definitely are. I think our boys often don't get the credit they deserve. There must be more evaluation structure in Texas for a number of obvious reasons. Save for a few exceptions, I am not sure they are the end all be all for us that some make them out to be. Lots of Texas people, for example, assume we have to recruit Texas to have any players at all.

That is more likely I think. I still maintain that the value of the modal Texas recruit to our success in the modern era is overrated.

Are you expecting us to do better or worse now?

No joke.

I think so too. Some people said the opposite and I could not figure out why.

I don't know, I see the game as one of the tougher ones.
