According to an article in The Morning Advocate, Coach Cal was quoted as being upset that, during the news conference & follow up comments, there was almost literally no talk at all bout expanded SEC basketball coverage. He was there but pretty much ignored, as were all the rest of the league's basketball coaches. All the talk was bout football & revenue. He wanted to stand up & ask a question bout basketball but was afraid "to embarrass anyone". He came across as pissed.

I thought that there should have been a little more basketball talk as well, but oh well.

Just goes to show how important football is to the conference.

If the SEC Network doesn't do very positive things for SEC basketball, I think it is a major failure on the part of the SEC. Football will get it's publicity no matter what, but the network could really help improve our conference in basketball if used properly.

Personally, I'm more excited about the possible expanded coverage of basketball as there really isn't going to be any change in football except more money and the scrimmages against FCS opponents probably won't be pay-per-view.

If the new deal can increase the exposure of the conference in basketball leading to better recruitig for all teams or generate the money where the little 11 can upgrade their coaching staffs the conference as a whole will benefit.

There is no excuse for the SEC being as shitty as it has was in basketball like last year.

Let's be honest. In this day and age they can devote a website to all he basketball content stats, put up a bunch of highlight videos and youtube montages, have people like clay travis tweet the link, and you'll hit the fanbase. Kids and recruits, the people Calipari wants to genrate buzz, receive info on their phones through twitter, instagram, etc. If he gives a shite, he needs to be talking to SECdigitalnetwork.com's webmaster and social media personnel.

That's because SEC basketball is absolutely horrendous for the most part.

No help is needed here, if anything the argument could be made the games being on TV could hurt the schools via lost revenue from decreased attendance at games.

Not sure what you read, but doesnt sound all that pissed

quote:

"Everybody's recruiting stretches out because they already may want to play against Florida and Kentucky and everybody here, but being in the SEC means, if you come with us, you're not a regional player, you're national," Calipari said. "You don't have to worry you have to stay home because that's your fan base. Your fan base is national. You don't have to worry about regional fan bases. You can go out and create what you want to create."

Still, there was no doubt what sport drove the deal: football.

Calipari acknowledged he felt left out as he sat on the stage and heard only football-related questions. Asked where basketball fit in the SEC picture, Calipari said "I don't know. How many men's basketball questions were there today? Did we have any? No. In the room, it was either they wanted to know about money, percentages or what it did with football. I was ready to stand up (and say), ‘Can I ask a basketball question?' I almost did it, just to do it. Then I said no, I don't want to embarrass anybody."

They did talk about bb in their statements.

However, the media mostly asked about football.

Cant control reporter questions.

Football drives the bus in college sports.

Next year is going to be different. A lot of the top players stayed in school, and a lot of schools brought in more top talent.

SEC will earn respect in basketball, starting next year.

That argument has been attempted for every sport being televised ever, and it doesn't hold up.

Increased exposure on TV will help drive more ballpark attendance, not take it away.

Yeah, they don't have a good feel for Cal when he's really pissed.

Reading what you posted in full context, if you read between the lines he's just trying to promote SEC Basketball.

There is no such thing as a filler sport in the SEC. There are the sports we dominate, and the sports we are about to dominate. Basketball falls in the second category.
