Greatest Player of the Saban Era

A long running bracket style voting contest on the greatest player of the Saban era. (Roll Bama Roll)

Up first, Julio vs Upshaw

Julio is running away with it. And I concur. As much as I love Upshaw, this one is pretty clear cut.

RBR Greatest Player of the Saban Era

I can't see me ever voting against TR, though, who probably deserves the win.

What do you think?

Julio would win over Upshaw, but T-Rich would probably be my top guy.

My final four (given the restraints of the bracket above)

Julio Jones
Barrett Jones
Trent Richardson

and this one is the hardest to pick from.. CJ Mosley. Went with the rings. Hard to go against HTWMI . . but in light of TR being in the other bracket, and our best RB, I give the nod to Mosley.

One WR, one O-lineman, one RB, and one LB.

. . and no one from the secondary.

I'd vote for Trent Richardson though I hope the greatest hasn't played yet.

Pump the brakes.

Coop has only played one season. He has the potential to reach that status, but saying he is easily there already is a huge stretch imo.

Barrett Jones should win, but he probably won't.

So far. College career only? Barret Jones.

Pro's, I think Julio will be the greatest in the pro's.

Overall, I would go with Trent, so I guess Trent wins.

But I love them all the same. No homo.

Glad they left him out.

Guy gets way more love and credit than he deserves.

Rolo as a seven seed is ridiculous. He should be top three easily.

So . . who would you move down to move him up?

1) Julio Jones
2) Mark Ingram
3) Trent Richardson
4) Barret Jones
5) AJ McCarron
6) Mark Barron

I'd have trouble moving any of them down for Ro.

Just measuring on field talent, it's gonna be a tossup between Julio and Richardson. If you, however, you take into account what they meant to the program and it's continued success in terms of national exposure and high profile talent appeal, it's probably between Julio and Ingram. Ingram winning the Heisman probably went a long way in securing TJ Yeldon and the commitments from the 2013 RB class. Imagine the 2012 season without TJ Yeldon...SCARY. I believe though, the commitment, eventual signing and the subsequent early success of Julio Jones was the catalyst Saban and Co. needed to create a recruiting identity that showed Alabama would once again be THE school of choice for high profile talent interested in earning early playing time and competing for championships on a yearly basis.

My vote goes to Julio

I love the three OL but I would take Smith over all three.

Would also have McElroy over Upshaw and Mosley would be top 5ish seed.

Rolo's behind JJ and TR, that'd be it for me. The guy wasn't just a great LB, he was a phenomenal defensive QB. My final four would be Rolo, TR, JJ, and Barrett Jones. JJ and TR in the championship with TR taking the cake.
