Did anyone predict the rise of Amari Cooper?

I am very ho-hum when it comes to our WRs, because we don't usually have a star at the position, apart from Julio. I expected okay things, but not the beast that is Cooper. Did anyone on here predict, or hear predictions, that Cooper would become one of the top WRs in the country?

I certainly didn't. I've followed recruiting long enough to know that it's very rare for a true freshman to come in and be a stud especially on a team as loaded with talent from top to bottom as Bama. I was even trying to pump the breaks on the Yeldon hype following A-day last year. It's good to be wrong sometimes though.

I did not. I didn't see him as being physically dominant as Julio, and he isn't. I expected him to be more like Kenny Bell, who's good, but not great. Cooper reminds me a lot of AJ Green. He's fast and catches everything

As a WR, Cooper > Julio

Julio is the greatest athlete I have ever seen, though.

What is scary is that we have him for another 2 years, same with Yeldon. I have never seen a team with so much young talent before.

It is incredible. I think after it's all said and done, Amari has a great chance to be a first round pick.

With Amari Cooper, Chris Black (if he turns out to be as good as advertised), Kenny Bell, and Deandrew White our passing game could be absolutely lethal. Also, our running game will be deadly too. Defensive coordinators will be shitting bricks.

Does anyone remember which game was his coming out party? Not when he started, but when he went beast mode. Was it Tennessee?

I was hoping, based on Saban mentioning him a lot before the season started. Had no idea, he'd blow up as much as he did though. I was hoping for him to be close to K Bell in the receiving dept. I think he's surpassed that.

re: Did anyone predict the rise of Amari Cooper?

My buddy who was an assistant (now coaches at USF) told me when we were recruiting him, right before he committed, that the coaches really, really liked him.. Said that the reason that he wasnt more sought afer in HS was because of an injury during his junior season. I was excited about him.

That being said, I highly doubt that anyone could have predicted the success he had, and the domination that he displayed. I sure didnt.

He didn't really pop out on film. When he committed I expected little to no playing time for him as a freshman

Julio had McElroy passing to him, not McCarron. That effectively took away Julio's best aspect as a down-field and jump-ball threat. Cooper is a beast and has better hands than Julio, but Julio > Cooper as a WR. At least for now.

Coop was my fave recruit that year. I don't know if I expected THIS, but his routes are so clean. He embarrassed people at camps.

Tider-in-Florida was raving about Cooper before he arrived on campus. Said he was better than Dorial Green-Beckham. I respect his opinion on recruits but honestly thought he'd fallen and bumped his ahead.

Gladly, I was wrong and Tider-in-Florida was right about Cooper.

Slow down there partner.

Amari Cooper didn't demand the respect--and double teams--right out of the gate like Julio did.

You can bet defenses will key on him more now. He's a great player and undoubtedly our best, but it's a bit premature to compare him to the one of the GOAT at the position for Alabama.

Unfortunately this is all gonna be at the mercy of an unproven offensive line. Hopefully they will gel quickly.

I agree that as WR

Cooper> Julio

-Runs better routes
-More explosive on the field. Julio didn't appear explosive to me at Bama until the Tennessee game in 2010. Cooper ran 4.34 this Spring and looks it on the field
-Better ball skills
-Much better hands. Julio dropped a lot of passes

Julio was a better blocker

Went to several games of his in high school and watched a few practices and workouts and he was the best pure receiver i'd seen at that age since I had gotten into training and working with different athletes.
