Not sure if people have realized or not but Vandy has a very legitimate chance of earning the all-time SEC baseball record set by my beloved Gamecocks in 2000.

The record is 25-5 and Vandy is currently 19-2 with 9 SEC games remaining. So to break the record Vandy must wins 7 of their final 9 SEC games and 6 of their final 9 to tie the record.

Their schedule finishes as follows.

@SC
@UK
'Bama

Obviously I feel that if we can beat LSU 2/3 in Baton Rouge we can take 2 from Vandy at home. However if you look at our schedule we have been unnaturally inconsistent. I'd like to think at minimum we can take 1.

UK isn't having nearly a good of a season as they expected but winning on the road in the SEC is never easy regardless.

'Bama has a respectable SEC record but it'll be tough taking a game from Vandy at Vandy.

So can Vandy do it? Can they win 7/9? As much as I hate to see our record be overtaken I think Vandy can do it but I would love nothing more than to see us play a big part of that not happening by taking a series from the 'Dores this weekend.

What say the SECR?

this thread will end in flames

but IMO 6 games against UK/SC plus a series against a middle of the pack bama team will make it hard to go 7-2

It's about that time of year where I actually start to get really nervous before a big series.

At the start of the year it's always "plenty of baseball left". And then soon after plenty isn't so plentiful. Now it gets exciting.

My heart is not prepared. I swear to god if we lose a close game to literally end our season this year I may die of cardiac arrest. I kind of got used to winning those games during 2010 and 2011. Especially in Omaha. My god we got so many breaks and made so many great plays.

I'm rambling, aren't I?

It all started with this

I think they have a pretty good chance of it, I think if we don't take the series from them they'll get the 26-4 record. I just don't have a lot of faith in both UK & Bama to taking 2 games from Vandy, so they at least tie the record.

Well, all we gotta do is sweep them this weekend to put the pressure on.... If we just won the series, I'ld be stoked.

They have an excellent shot at winning 6 of the 9 and a good shot at winning 7 of the 9. Good for them.

I think they finish 6-3 down the stretch so they tie the 25-5 record

I'll pretend to be.

8-1 finish for 27-3. best baseball team in SEC history. that UGA loss will be a wart in my butthole for a long time. a real eye sore on an otherwise great season.

to Ziomek, Beede, and a lineup of guys whose names just sound like they're good at baseball

If Vandy wins the series this weekend, they'll break the record. Kentucky is in shambles and bama doesn't stand a chance on senior's weekend.

Too bad the scheduling gods didn't have SC as the last series. Assuming Vandy could take care of business that series would be awesome as the deciding factor.

I don't think they do, but they will get close.

Ziomek and Beede are the best 1-2 punch in America, I just don't see those guys losing if their offense gives them 4+ runs. Their Sunday starter is coming on strong as well. I see Vandy finishing no worse than 7-2 and that will put them at 26-4

If VU takes the series at USC this weekend I think they get it done or at the least tie the mark at 25-5. UK is really struggling right now and Bama coming in on Sr. day weekend ought to be a tough atmosphere for any visiting team. Problem is getting through USC this weekend but they have been sort of a Jekyll & Hyde squad this year, should be an interesting weekend.

Also it's not in anyway an excuse but VU had exams this past week and traditionally our basketball team plays like hot shite after Winter Finals (hope the same thing doesn't transpire in baseball).
