So my roommate's GF's cat got out tonight. It's not even a year old and has never been outside. Do cats instinctively know how to get back or is it probably scared and holed up somewhere?

Anyone ever been in this situation?

Sorry man, I don't have very much experience in this kind of situation, but if I had to guess, I would say that the cat turns up pretty soon. If not, it seems like cats always like to wander to their neighbors house

This. If you're lucky, someone took it in. Time to search outside and then go door-to-door nearby if you don't find it outside. Good luck!

If you leave food out, eventually it will come back. It may take a few nights, and raccoon sightings, but it'll come back (probably)

just keep checking, whenever it wants back in it'll be waiting. It might get it's arse kicked and/or knocked up in the meantime though.

When they get out and don't want to come back in, forget about it until it's hungry and sick of real deal animals in nature that'll frick it up.

We never found it.

We put up signs though. I hope someone took it in.

My gf's cat has gotten out twice. 1st time it ran away for 6 days. Second time it ran away for 7 days,

Next it will probably be 8.

Cats are assholes like that

Probably the cat could find it's way back. What kind of environment is the outside? A neighborhood? busy streets? woods?

I've had three house cats slip outside in the last three years or so and all of them just disappeared. Sorry to hear about this little critter. Maybe it will come back.
