Does your college town have gay bars? For a friend, honest.

Seriously....

I was out a few weeks back at The Wine Cellar off Dickson. As we were leaving, the woman I was with suggested we check out SpeakEasy, which was a dance club a little bit off Dickson along the bike trail.

We walk in and as we are paying the cover charge, I notice a gay newspaper at the front desk. I ask "is this a gay bar now?" The girl says "Yes, we've been an LGBT club for almost two years."

It used to be a regular dance club. Now, its gay.

So Fayetteville is a town of 70k, and it has two full-fledged gay bars in the college bar area.

It has a third one that is gay on Sunday nights.

Club Push

Speakeasy

And the one that's gay/drag show hell on Sundays:

Xanadu

That's all within the college bar district/Downtown/Dickson area. Fayetteville has always been liberal, but that's a lot of gay bars for a town this size.

I realize we have grown to function as the primary entertainment district of a metro of 500k people, but still. Are we liberal as frick here?

Back when I was in college, the gay bar in Fayetteville was off in an industrial area. It was only open on Sunday nights, and everybody eventually went there to see the big drag show. It was always mostly looky-lou's wanting to see real, live gay people in their natural habitat. Plus they hardly carded.

Now ours are right in the middle of all the regular bars.

Damnit, so I have to post the Auburn urban legend about there being certain spots in the Auburn bars that gays are supposed to stand to let others know that they're gay? Because I've been hearing that for several years now and am 95% sure it's 100% bull shite.

And no we don't have any gay bars in Auburn. Or if there is I've never heard it.

RIP Ron's Place and the giant Unicorn mural

I always pulled hot straight girls out of there on Sunday nights. They found my tolerance sexy and progressive.

RIP Ron's Place

My only solid memory of that place was going there with a group from work, and one was a former offensive tackle, getting ready for the combine. He was shitfaced, and kept throwing the word fig around. Pretty sure someone visined his drink. He wound up puking all over the hood of a car and we had to carry/drag his 300 lb arse into his house. I was 19 and got in and got served, which made it awesome.

I used to arm wrestle bull dykes there.

I had this go to move that always won them over and they'd buy me drinks all night. I was really skinny back then, and the huge heffalumps are usually in a shitty mood so I'd challenge em to an arm wrestling match, 310# and thick dyke vs. 140# scrawny me... I'd throw myself backwards and do a back roll so it look like she beat me so bad I flipped head over heels and went flying a few feet.

Always got them rolling and they'd accept me and give the hot bi chicks the OK to blow me in the parking lot. Lesbos will cock block straight guys they don't like worse than you could ever imagine, so I was always buddied up to the mother hen and with their approval I was a made man.

That place was creepy as frick. Barbed wire parking area, dank, dark yet glittery. Seems like they had fold-out tables all lined up to drink at, like a fellowship hall at a church or something.

The bartenders sure were friendly, though.

So that's why no girls talk to me?

And here I was thinking I was just an ugly douche.

Oxford doesn't have any registered gay bars.

A few years ago there was a bar named parish's and everyone said that was where the gays hung out, but it's since become an 18 and up crowded shite show freshman bar named the corner.
