Anyone up on them for current times at the u of a?

Why I'm asking is a relative got awarded a great scholarship just two years ago, his brother now a senior in hs got notice that he would get 1k scholarship. The younger brother has equal (not 100% on what exactly but if not 4 then right at it) gpa and scored a point higher on his act (either a 30 or 31). Both have good leadership/extracurricular activities that would look good on their apps.

Have things changed that much in 2 years? Is there a weird sibling thing with scholarships or what?

It changes from year to year based on how many people they take. My brother and I had the same act and GPA when applying but he got a full ride while I only got the half ride (University scholarship I believe). He went in '98 while I went in '99. I was so pissed at the time.

Hmm, dang it I was hoping maybe it was some error.

Younger brother in my scenario is upset too- he's really worked his butt off and has taken the act multiple times to get the best he could. I think he's disappointed and feels kinda like he wasted time and effort.

Edit: and 1000.00 that's almost a slap in the face IMO. Maybe I'm just a pissed aunt right now.

Umm I don't know? I don't think that the younger one has decided- does that matter these days on freshman scholarships? It's been a long time (obviously) since I had mine.

Tell him to apply to other schools.

Arkansas did me that way out of high school, my GPA wasn't the best in the world, not the worst either, not good enough to be Val./Sal. in my class. My ACT score was better than theirs.

Those two got offered better scholarships than I did to UofA, so I applied to private schools, and I ended up get offered better scholarships than UofA offered me.

My high school would announce scholarship award amounts of those who were attending college after graduation, I got to here my name last as I had an award amount triple the val. and sal. combined who were both going to the UofA. Got to love a private school that costs 48,000 a semester...

Yes, he's involved in just about anything he can be- sports, church stuff, quiz bowl, student senate (or whatever they call it), etc etc etc. He didn't go to boys state that's about the only difference between him and the older brother.

That's very good advice but I think he's set on going to Fayetteville. They have college funds (I probably shouldn't be whining) but it still stinks.

A semester? Sure you don't mean a year? I'm not aware of any school that costs $96k a year!

First year scholarships are bullshite. If you prove you belong among UA's best, you are rewarded for it in subsequent semesters.

I didn't get a dime coming in to UA, two years later I get paid to go to school here. I know, CSB
