The disparity between Texas and other schools in the Big 12 is quite apparent. Big 10 not much different.

SEC's traditional schools are relatively close to each other. Alabama has highest expenses.

Penn St. dropped from 2nd to out of the top 10.

Pretty large gap between Texas and the top SEC schools.

Texas's profit margin is 60% greater than bama, lsu, and AU which are all pretty much the same.

According to this site, Bama's athletic dept. as a whole is 2nd in the country and gap between UTa and UA isn't nearly as large.

SEC shares the revenue more; that's what I was trying to get at.

A&M was still in the SEC and under the old big 12 contract. They came in around $25mm profit.

Summary:

AU and Bama spend significantly more than anyone else in the country and $10 million more than the next closest SEC teams of LSU, Arky, FL, UGA.

Bama, AU, FL, and UGA all take in about the same amount of money.

UGA and FL spend less, so have higher profit margins than AU/Bama.

Is this why Jay Jacobs is still there? The boatloads of money he makes y'all.

Auburn's athletic department as a whole does not bring in a lot. I've seen stats showing them in the red over the last 5 years.

So only Mississippi College and Belhaven turn a profit in MS? I have been to a few MC games, don't know if that is correct...

I'd say that is one reason. AU has profited every year he has been there. Not sure what the margins were when the previous AD was there...

This is last year's revenue, so Big XII exit fees are factored in. We should jump up considerably in 2012-2013, as exit fees will be gone, SEC has a much better TV deal, and our merchandising sales have gone up considerably.

Man, those bidding wars are hell in Alabama. No wonder State backed off of Cam.

I think Texas will drop a lot in that pretty soon. It's inflated with the Longhorn Network which I suspect is going to down hard in the near future as it continues to destroy the Big 12 and provide Texas with national exposure of being terrible.

Isn't the SEC Network coming around the corner? SEC teams get more money, SEC becomes more unstoppable?

2006-2011:

Total athletic dept revenue and expenses

Profit-wise, Auburn's comes in at about $3.5MM
As opposed to
Bama: $19MM
Florida: $16MM
Georgia: $12MM
LSU: $16MM

And I will find that listing with them in the red, rest assured. Just give me a bit.

According to that website, Bama was in the red in 2008.
