Will the committee choose the 4 teams they would like or will it be just the top 4 in the rankings? Let's say this year we have Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, Oregon, Kansas State, Stanford, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, and Scar. I would personally choose Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and Florida. What im asking will the BCS or a certain ranking be what matters or the 4 teams the committe come up with

Nothing is in concrete regarding process nor committee members. I've followed it fairly closely and so far the signs are:
01. A small committee (possibly a representative from each conference and ND)
02. They'll do their own rankings starting at some point in the season and then weekly. Their votes will be public.
03. There will be no mandatory criteria. This frees them to use AP, Coaches poll, (Harris poll possibly will no longer exist), computer polls, eye test, etc.
04. Supposedly a weight will be given if a team wins their conference, SOS, OOC, etc. How much weight will be subjective to each member.

The most important issue...who composes the committee...hasn't been decided yet.

Supposedly there is going to be a selection commitee. So who they choose I guess they would probably capped off at the TOP 10. But that's only speculation. The firm details aren't out yet.

There will be an actual ranking, just like we see now with AP, BCS, Coaches, etc.

It is all a stop gap until super conferences are finalized so I assume your Bama boy Mrak Womcak will do all the scheduling right?

Thanks, I do not understand why they would give ND their on representative in the meeting, would that not be somewhat of a problem, seeing he reps 1 school and the other rep whole conferences. Conference reps would have to vote upon 10 to 14 teams while the ND rep would just stick ND in top 10 if they are having a decent season. BYU would also jump on this bandwagon as well, I could see these 2 reps teaming up, and royaly screwing the system.

I would assume its not in the best interest of the SEC, to have 1 man representing 1 school, if the SEC has 1 to represent 14. I am a Alabama fan first yes, but a SEC fan as well. I want the best for the conference.

Think that it might work like basketball. Terrible. easy solution: 16 teams - every conference champion (11) + 5 at large. use BCS ratings to seed. Problem solved in 4 weeks.

I think this is just the beginning...I think eventually..maybe by 2020 we will see it expanded to 8. 8 teams means the finialist only have an extra 3 games added to the season which if a particualr teams wins their conference title gamealso they will have ended the season playing 16 games total.

They choose the four they want, but I hope they think long and hard before deviating from the top four ranked teams.

And this is why I don't really like it. Here's why:

Everyone has bias that influences their decisions. EVERYONE. It's human nature.

One way to eliminate bias (whether it's polls, samples in statistics, etc) is to expand the pool of people that contribute. By sampling from a larger pool people's individual bias is counteracted by other people's different bias. Basically, the bigger and more "representative" the pool is to the entire population (whatever that may be in the particular situation) the less overall bias exists.

This is kind of what we have now to some degree (although not perfect) with the Harris, Coaches, and AP polls. You have hundreds of voters sampled from all over the country. They all have their individual bias for sure, but they effectually cancel out each others' bias to a large degree.

Now we have decided to let a very small group of people decide the college football playoff which will clearly introduce more bias and inaccurate representation of the entire population into the decision.

They should have just used the polls made up of hundreds rather than a poll of 10 people or whatever.

I don't like it.

Imagine the chaos that would arise this year if the top 4 BCS teams go.

Bama, Notre Dame, Florida, Oregon.

Florida going and not UGA, as well as neither PAC 12 division winners going but Oregon instead. Even as a Bama fan this would be agitating considering they would be the only team who had to play a championship game.
