Seems like itd be the perfect gig for him if he's looking for a good starting point. Strong has run the program well, has really good players in place, Lville will be playing in the ACC so he'd be able to win alot of games, etc. Seems like a no brainer to me. What says the SECr?

That seems like a Smart possibility and a real great fit

Yep. He could. If they offered and he accepted.

When all the openings were being discussed, the Louisville job is the one I thought would be ideal for KS if it came open. Perfect fit and perfect timing if he gets it as long as they let him coach in the BCS title game. I'd like to see him get that job as it's obvious he is leaving sooner rather than later.

If Strong leaves, look for Petrino back at UL.

I don't think Smart wants to start at a place like Louisville. I think he'll go after the Wisconsin job myself.

That actually isn't a bad idea at all.

Why turn down Auburn then go to Louisville?

Auburn wouldn't give him total control. A place like Louisville or Wisconsin probably would.

But with all the coaching changes so far this year, it's a safe guess that Smart was contacted about a few of them.

He didn't go anywhere then, and Louisville and Wisconsin aren't great jobs. If he turned down Auburn he wont go anywhere this year.

Well its obvious that if he was contacted, it would have only been from schools that had a current opening. With every new coaching hire, another opening comes available.

Wisconsin is a very good job if you're a Big Ten guy. Louisville has turned into a very good stepping stone job for inexperienced head coaches looking to climb the coaching ladder (Petrino, Strong, John L Smith, etc)

Because you start your HC career in the same divison as Bama, LSU, A&M, Arky, etc and you have a permanent opponent of UGA.

That makes for a tough start with all of the uncertainties at AU right now.

I think UL would be a much better starting point at this moment.

I like Smart and his recruiting but hope he gets a good job like that. He deserves an opportunity.

I've been thinking the same thing. Louisville is the perfect stepping stone job for a 1st time head coach. He did just get his contract at Bama "enhanced", so not sure if that means he's planning on staying for at least another year.

It would give him a chance to bolster his resume, prove he can win on his own, and maintain his recruiting connections. He would then have a much better chance at a big time job in a few years, imo. Whether that is bama, uga, or somewhere else.

I think Louisville would be a great fit and starting point for Smart, much as it was for Strong. I hope he gets his chance soon, just not at Auburn
