The opening tune of Les Mes to their ensemble? Always wondered that.

How: By giving the band members sheet music so that they could learn the tune. Plus, I'm sure they practiced it as a group before performing on Saturdays.
Why: It's a popular tune from one of the most popular Broadway musicals of all-time.

I've watched the 25th Anniversary concert. Does that count? And it only pre-dates me by two years so screw you!

Les Mes is not the name of any musical I've ever heard of.

Get some culture sweetheart.

Usually someone just decides they like a tune and they incorporate it into our cheers. Les Mis is one our defense cheers that we usually save for sacks since it's one of the cooler and lower cheers we have

I think you are the one who lacks culture. If you are talking about the music from the musical that was adapted from the Victor Hugo novel, you've spelled it wrong and don't seem to know what you are talking about.

I'm sure you meant Les Mis, as in Les Miserables. Bless your heart.

It's Les Misérables. Les Mes is the shortened version for those who can't spell it all the way out.
ETA: And lol @ anyone who calls the musical version of Les Misérables "culture".

Poor spelling does equate to a lack of culture...good point.
Guess nobody knows. I figure one of the directors must have really liked it a while back and added it.

You asked "how and why" when it came to the band incorporating the opening theme to the play. I simply answered your question. The band learned the music. That's the how. And the why is because it is a popular tune from a popular play - the same reason why they use the theme from The Phantom of the Opera on third down.

This is the stereotype of the idiot and smug Auburn fan manifesting in real time.

Well, you didn't know why it was wrong, and you then accused me of lacking culture. That goes beyond poor spelling, dear. That points to ignorance.

Parkjas' trolling aside, I have wondered this before. I don't know of any other bands that play show tunes during the game.

I've been sitting here trying to figure out what particular dialect of southern redneck would create Les Mes from Les Mis.
